The senior Bishop of the House of England wishes victims well following a strong earthquake that hit Southern Turkey and Syria during the early hours of Monday.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 7.8 magnitude earthquake is tagged the strongest the country has ever experienced in a hundred years. At first, about 42 casualties were recorded, but of late, the death toll had risen to over 5000, with tens of thousands injured. The Syrian civil defense also called ‘White Helmets’ groups, made it known that a lot of victims are trapped under the rubble.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, took to his Twitter page earlier on Monday, empathizing with the victims, as he prayed for them, their families, and all working to rescue those who are trapped. In his tweet, the Archbishop said; “So terrible to hear the unfolding news about the devastating earthquake in Turkey. I pray for victims, their families and all working to rescue those who are trapped.”
So far, multiple aftershocks have been recorded across the region hours after the first occurrence. In a video by CNN, resume teams were seen pulling out people from under the rubble at the site of the incident.
It was also recorded that multiple regions across Israel, Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon felt the aftershock of the earthquake.
