The American contemporary worship music collective founded by Tony Brown and Jonathan, Maverick City Music, won the Grammy Award for the first time since the creation of the group.
Maverick City Music took to their social media page during the early hours of Tuesday, as they celebrated and gave gratitude to God for giving them a win in the Grammy Music Award for the first time. Their win was on the account of their album titled “Old Church Basement”, a live LP recorded with Elevation Worship. They won the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and also got nominated for Best Gospel Performance, Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance, and Best Gospel Album. This is a massive win for the Maverick City Music Group.
The caption on their Twitter Post Read; “WOW!! We are honored and GRATEFUL to God our father for using us in this space and for YOU our Mav City Family for always supporting us
This is only the beginning”
In one of their conversations, they revealed that it was also the first in twenty (20) years that a Christian musician will perform live on television, as they performed their top hit “Jireh”. They said; “All the glory and praise goes to Jireh,” as Maverick City’s Chandler Moore received the award with members of both Maverick City and Elevation Worship standing behind him. Moore said that Maverick City was a space for those who are marginalized, unheard, and rejected in the space to be heard and all the members on the stage represented that.
Maverick City Music is to have a tour with top gospel artist, Kirk Franklin, alongside Jonathan McReynolds and Housefires. The tour is called “The Kingdom Tour”.
