The Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) has dropped out of the state basketball tournament as a result of the involvement of a trans player from the opponent team.
The girls-only school was to play against the Long Trail Mountain Lions in the fourth game of the playoffs the previous week. However, they had forfeited their place to play on the basis of “fairness” and “safety”.
Vicky Frogg, the principal of the school revealed that MVCS Eagles dropped out of the Vermont Division IV state tournament because they believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players”.
In a statement to Fox news, the school head said, “Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general.”
Some people had expressed support for their withdrawal on social media last week. A certain Tom posted on Twitter with the caption, “My hat is off in 100% support of Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) girls basketball team, the Eagles for not playing a transgender girls basketball team.”

In the policy of Vermont Agency of Education’s best practices, transgender and non-transgender students “are to be provided the same opportunities to participate in physical education as are all other students. Generally, students should be permitted to participate in physical education and sports in accordance with the student’s gender identity. Participation in competitive athletic activities and sports will be resolved on a case-by-case basis”.
The Christian girls school had previously sent a message to the State Board of Education that a section of the school policy does not support the academy’s religious stance.
“As a Christian-based school we have a statutory and constitutional right to make decisions based on our religious beliefs, including those pertaining to marriage and sexuality,” Fogg wrote.
“By signing below United Christian Academy does not waive any such rights. We believe that we have substantially complied with the requirements for approved independent schools.”
As the issue of transgender is on the rise, a lot of Christian institutions had stood their ground in upholding their biblical faith.
