Internet Users Drag Nigerian Pastor Tunde Bakare’s Remarks on the Late Singer Mohbad

In a recent statement made by Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, some internet users have expressed their disapproval of his comments regarding the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The late singer passed away in mid September 2023 following controversial circumstance.

The pastor’s remarks, made during an event at the 2nd anniversary of The Envoy Nation, a UK-based church, have sparked controversy and criticism on social media.

During his speech, Pastor Tunde Bakare discussed the lifestyle and name of the late singer, suggesting that Mohbad had “reaped the reward of his unpleasant lifestyle while alive.” He went on to claim that Mohbad, a former signee of the Marlian Music record label, associated with individuals of questionable character while he was alive.

Bakare also questioned the appropriateness of the name “Mohbad” and asked the congregation if it was a good name. He shared a personal anecdote, saying, “My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know Mohbad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? Mohbad. When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth. I am not blaming him, I am just telling you. Is Mohbad a good name? Moh Bad.”

Following these comments, internet users took to various social media platforms to express their criticism of Pastor Bakare’s remarks.

According to a report by Punchng, one internet user, Austine Otu, sarcastically commended Pastor Bakare for his perceived lack of sin, adding, “My instinct told me one prominent pastor will preach about the boy yesterday in church.”

Dickson Felix advised Pastor Bakare not to speak if he has nothing positive to say about the late artist, Mohbad.

Tonto Dikeh, a popular Nollywood actress, took to her Instagram handle to criticize the pastor’s comments, urging him to refrain from involving Mohbad’s name in his ministrations and to apply the same level of scrutiny and commentary to his colleagues who have been involved in sex scandals. She said, “Dear pastor Tunde, When your colleagues are caught with their pants down in unholy sexual activities. We never hear your voice, you never speak nor preach about them. It comes to the death of a boy who is old enough to be your last born and you say ‘he reaped the reward of his actions. ‘What Actions? Please please please keep the same energy with your corrupted Colleagues as you just did today. It is the anointing of God upon your head that is making me not go off on this loose comment of yours. I have learned over the years that if you have nothing nice to say, Keep mute (do not talk at all). Preach your gospel and leave Mohbad’s name out of your ministration. I do not respect old age, I respect the wisdom you exhibit at old age.”

This controversy surrounding Pastor Tunde Bakare’s comments has ignited a discussion on social media platforms, with many internet users expressing their disapproval and demanding a more balanced approach to addressing social issues. The pastor’s remarks have raised questions about the responsibility of religious leaders when commenting on sensitive topics and individuals’ private lives.

However, a certain internet user, Kemi Olunloyo, was seen being in support of the pastor. She stated that the music industry would have been better if there were no use of drugs and alcohol.

As this story continues to develop, it remains to be seen whether Pastor Tunde Bakare will respond to the criticisms and engage in a meaningful dialogue with those who have expressed their concerns regarding his recent comments.

- We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

If you are not a Christian, and would like to become a Christian. Simply say - "LORD Jesus, thank you for forgiving me of my SINs, today I am deciding to follow you. Accept me into your family, in Jesus name I pray. Amen "
