Earlier this week, Lil Nas X, famed for chart-topping hits like “Old Town Road,” took to social media to share what he presented as an acceptance letter for a ‘Dual Concentration in Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies,’ set to commence in the fall of 2024.

The posted letter showcased the signature of the university’s late founder, Jerry Falwell Sr., and prominently featured the institution’s logo.

However, Liberty University quickly addressed the matter in a statement to the Christian Post, asserting, “We did not issue the ‘acceptance letter’ posted yesterday on social media by Montero Hill, and we have no record of Montero Hill applying to the university.”

The authenticity of the letter had already raised eyebrows among some social media users. They pointed out that the signature belonged to Jerry Falwell Sr., who passed away in 2007. Users also made a distinction between him and his son, Jerry Falwell Jr., who assumed the presidency after his father’s death. Jerry Falwell Jr. stepped down in 2020 amid allegations of a sex scandal, further complicating the situation.

This incident is the latest in a string of controversies ignited by Lil Nas X within Christian communities. The singer, whose real name is Montero Hill, has been actively promoting his upcoming single, ‘J Christ,’ scheduled for release this Friday. Notably, he has faced criticism in the past for sharing a photo of himself being lifted on a cross and a video in which he humorously participates in the Lord’s Supper in a church setting while dressed as Jesus.

The controversy surrounding Lil Nas X’s alleged enrollment at Liberty University has added fuel to the fire, with many questioning the intentions behind his actions. Some social media users expressed skepticism about the letter’s authenticity, given the discrepancies in the signature and the university’s response.

It is important to note that Lil Nas X has been unapologetically provocative in his recent public appearances and social media posts. His deliberate use of religious imagery and themes in the promotion of his music has sparked both admiration and criticism, particularly within conservative and religious circles.

As Lil Nas X gears up for the release of ‘J Christ,’ it remains to be seen how this latest controversy will impact his standing within the Christian community. The singer has been unapologetic about his creative choices, maintaining that his work is a form of artistic expression and a commentary on societal issues.

The dispute over Lil Nas X’s alleged enrollment in a biblical studies course at Liberty University has brought attention to the ongoing controversy surrounding the artist.
