New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis, known not only for his prowess on the football field but also for his steadfast faith, delivered an inspiring message during a post-game press conference on Sunday.
After the Saints secured a victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, Davis took the opportunity to share a powerful testimony about the goodness of God and the importance of having a relationship with Jesus Christ.
As he addressed the media and fans, Davis emphasized the significance of Sundays as the Lord’s day, a day for worship. He acknowledged that, often, players are celebrated and worshipped on this day instead of focusing on God. Therefore, he felt compelled to share a message of faith and hope.
To illustrate his point, Davis turned to Revelation 3:20, which reads, “See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me” (CSB). Using this verse as a foundation, he proceeded to recount a recent personal trial.
According to CBN’s report, Davis revealed that his four-year-old daughter, Carly-Faith, who had previously battled retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer diagnosed in 2020, had recently suffered a severe seizure. He described the distressing moment when Carly-Faith began foaming at the mouth, enduring a 30-minute seizure that necessitated a call to paramedics.
The NFL player and his family had faced adversity and fear when initially confronted with their daughter’s cancer diagnosis. However, Davis emphasized the importance of building a foundation on rock, referring to the Bible’s parable of building on solid ground instead of sand. He stressed the inevitability of trials in life and the necessity of a strong spiritual foundation to weather them.
Despite the challenging situation, Carly-Faith had been cancer-free for two years before the seizure occurred. Her unexpected medical emergency brought immense anxiety to the family. Davis shared that his daughter had stopped breathing twice in the ambulance en route to the hospital, intensifying their concerns.
Amidst the fear and uncertainty, Davis turned to prayer and sought divine intervention. He prayed for his daughter’s recovery, specifically asking God to protect her brain function, development, and speech from the adverse effects of the seizures.
In a remarkable turn of events, at 3 a.m. that morning, Davis received an astonishing gift—the sound of his daughter’s voice. Carly-Faith, who had no developmental issues or slurred speech prior to the seizure, woke up and began speaking clearly. This rapid recovery defied the typical recovery timeline for epilepsy patients, leaving the family astounded.
Carly-Faith’s condition continued to improve, and she was released from the hospital just one day after the seizure. Davis praised God for the miraculous healing and expressed his gratitude for the unexpected blessings they had received.
Davis took the opportunity to encourage his fans and listeners to establish a relationship with Jesus Christ. He urged them to lay their burdens before the Lord, trust in Him, and be attentive to His “knock” on their hearts. He emphasized that blessings would come to those who opened the door to Christ.
Closing his heartfelt message with a wish for a happy Sunday, Davis left the stage, leaving a lasting impact on those present. His testimony served as a reminder of the power of faith, prayer, and trust in God during challenging times.
Demario Davis first gained widespread attention for his unwavering faith several years ago when he was fined by the NFL for wearing a headband that bore the words “Man of God.” His public displays of faith have continued to inspire and uplift many, both on and off the football field.
