Taste of African Cuisines – Donkwa Energy Balls

Funke Koleosho’s POV – With this recipe, I am attempting to evolve one of Nigerians’ snacks into something that can fit into modern day’s purposeful snack. Purposeful because it’s not just a snack to eat when you feel peckish, it’s a snack that has some benefits,… you know, snack-with-benefits.

I am a lover of all things healthy, and I take extra time to research healthy foods and how they can be made.

What Dokwa Energy Balls Are

Energy balls, often referred to as “power-balls,” have gained popularity for their ability to provide a burst of energy. These compact snacks are fascinating, considering the significant amount of energy they offer, which can positively impact our body’s energy release and utilization.

Enter Donkwa, a delightful snack traditionally made from corn and peanuts—two ingredients with great potential to provide energy. To elevate its nutritional profile, I experimented with incorporating additional ingredients that complemented the existing ones, particularly those rich in vitamins and minerals.

After several trials, I proudly present the Donkwa Energy Balls. By popping a couple of these between meals, you’ll experience their remarkable ability to curb cravings effectively. Moreover, these energy balls facilitate a slow release of energy, preventing the onset of fatigue throughout the day.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pre-made or store-bought Donkwa balls
  • Assorted dried fruits
  • Honey
  • Mixed dried nuts

  • Finely chop the dried fruits and nuts, and then drizzle them with a generous amount of honey.
  • Add the Donkwa balls to the mixture and thoroughly combine all the ingredients.
  • Shape the mixture into compact balls, adjusting the ratio of Donkwa to mixed nuts and fruits according to your personal preference.

These Donkwa Energy Balls offer a delightful twist on a traditional Nigerian snack, infusing it with a boost of nutrients and a purposeful edge. Indulge in these delectable treats to curb your cravings and enjoy sustained energy levels throughout the day.

Note: Feel free to experiment with different combinations of dried fruits and nuts to discover your favorite flavor profile.

- We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

If you are not a Christian, and would like to become a Christian. Simply say - "LORD Jesus, thank you for forgiving me of my SINs, today I am deciding to follow you. Accept me into your family, in Jesus name I pray. Amen "
