The leader of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has refused Joe Biden’s assertion that some of the Bishops have accepted the use of taxpayer funds to carry out abortions.
Archbishop Timothy Broglio, the president of the USCCB has issued a statement rejecting the President’s claim that some of the church leaders were fine with taxpayer-funded abortions, while another bishop brands Joe Biden to be a fake catholic. The president made this claim while answering a question posed by a white house correspondent from the EWTN.
The reporter made it known to Biden that the Bishops were demanding that the federal tax dollars should not be used to fund abortions. “No, they are not all doing that, nor is the Pope doing that,” Biden responded. This conversation caused a lot of sensation on social media, with many dragging that Joe Biden used the Pope’s name to support his assertions.
The president of the United State Conference of Catholic Bishop, Timothy Broglio, confirmed the stance of the other church leaders and their commitment to preserving life and making abortion unthinkable. In his statement, he said; “The Catholic bishops of the United States are united in our commitment to life and will continue to work as one body in Christ to make abortion unthinkable.” “Taxpayer funding of abortion would force people of good conscience to participate in this grave evil against their will. It would contradict our right to live in accord with the tenets of our faith,” he continued”. The Archbishop further said that; “Taxpayer funding of abortion would force people of good conscience to participate in this grave evil against their will. It would contradict our right to live in accord with the tenets of our faith.”
Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, one of the most prominent and outspoken conservative catholic Bishop took to his twitter page and also went against Biden’s claims. In his tweet, he said; “Mr Biden can’t be allowed to twist the words of Pope Francis in this way. I implore the Vatican press office to emphatically clarify that Pope Francis rightly calls abortion murder. It is time to denounce Biden’s fake Catholicism.”
However, last Friday, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published a letter to the House of Representatives and the Senate particularly calling for an end to taxpayer funding for abortion services.
