Rick Warren announces he is stepping down at Saddleback Church

Rick Warren has announced his resignation from Saddleback Church.

Rick Warren, Author of bestselling book The Purpose Driven Life, has announced he will retire as senior pastor of Saddleback Church, following 40 years at the helm of one of America’s most influential churches.

Warren said will be stepping down from his role in September, and hand over to his successor, Andy Wood – who is currently lead pastor of Echo Church in San Jose, California.

Warren announced on Twitter commending Andy Wood for his experience in “growing a megachurch from zero” during his 14 years at Echo Church, as well as his biblical character qualities.

“Like Kay and me, Andy and Stacie started a brand new Purpose Driven Church with just a handful of people and they grew it to nearly 3,000 attendees on 4 campuses. Kay and I, and our Elders, have unanimously selected Andy Wood to lead us into the future as a church family. We are all SO excited! You’re going to absolutely LOVE this couple. Andy is 40 years old and full of God’s love!” wrote Warren on the Saddleback website.

Former Muslim recalls how vision of Jesus led her to Christ when she was suicidal

Living out her early childhood in Tehran, Iran, before moving to the United States at an early age, Nikta and her sister developed somewhat of a “rebellious streak” despite growing up in a “strict” Muslim household.

Nikta (last name omitted due to privacy concerns) told The Christian Post in a recent interview that she did not always feel “love” as a child. Her parents worked hard, but they often argued. After the family moved to California to seek a better education in a free country, Nikta said she tried her first cigarette at the age of 7 and drank alcohol in the eighth grade with the encouragement of her older sister. Samford University receives $100 Million Gift

Samford University today announced a transformational $100 million gift—the largest gift to the university by a single donor and the largest gift ever made to a higher education institution in the state of Alabama by a single donor. Funding for the generous donation comes from the estate of Marvin Mann ’54, who passed away on March 19. According to Mann’s wishes, $95 million will go toward endowed student scholarships and $5 million will go to support the Frances Marlin Mann Center for Ethics and Leadership, which was established by Mann in 2008 in honor of his late wife, Frances.

Marvin Mann’s generosity to Samford is unmatched in the institution’s history books. This is a truly transformational gift that will fulfill Marvin’s desire for more students to have the life-changing opportunities he had as a student and to strengthen the university for the future,” said President Beck A. Taylor.

Mann, a first-generation college graduate and native of Springdale, Alabama, understood the meaning of hard work and treasured the value of his Samford education. Having grown up in the Great Depression, he began working at four years old, candling eggs at his grandfather’s distribution business. After graduating from Samford in 1954, he worked for IBM for 32 years and went on to found Lexmark International, Inc. in 1991 where he served as chief executive officer and chairman until 1999. He was named Samford’s Alumnus of the Year in 2004 and received an honorary doctorate in commerce from the university in 1993.

“My father occasionally told stories of hitchhiking to and from Samford during the 1950s, so he must have highly valued his experience there, especially considering the effort he had to go through to attend,” said Mann’s son, Jeff Mann. “It’s obvious that my father revered Samford University and its community. For anyone to provide a gift that represents decades of hard work, leadership and successful investing he must have had full confidence in the leadership and future of the institution.”

The gift is expected to provide approximately $3.75 million annually to support and expand access to individuals seeking a Samford education. Including both undergraduate and graduate programs, over 100 students will benefit each year. Mann’s vision extends Samford’s legacy of financially supporting academic opportunity; during the 2021-22 academic year, the university funded nearly $75 million of scholarships for its students.

“Together with the Board of Trustees, members of the University Council, and with input from many of Samford’s stakeholders, I look forward to developing plans to strengthen the university’s ability to attract high-caliber students from a variety of backgrounds, for whom a Samford education would be financially out of reach without important scholarship support,” Taylor said. “Access and affordability remain two of the largest opportunities Samford has to extend its reach to more students and families. These funds will allow us to come alongside students who want to attend Samford in new and exciting ways while also reaching new populations of prospective students for whom Samford will be a great choice for their educational needs.”

While the majority of the gift will go toward student scholarships, $5 million will go to the Frances Marlin Mann Center for Ethics and Leadership, which Mann established in 2008 in memory of his beloved wife, Frances. The center is an endowed, university-wide unit that promotes student development and enriches teaching and scholarship in the university’s 10 academic schools. It provides resources to students, faculty, staff and Alabama nonprofits in order to promote the understanding and practice of positive character and servant-leadership. The $5 million will be added to the center’s current endowment to sustain and strengthen Samford’s emphasis on virtue and character formation.

“Teaching students how to succeed in the world of business is no longer enough,” Mann said in 2008 when the center was announced. “They must also enter their careers with a complete understanding of the connections between performance, ethics and leadership.”

“When I spoke with Marvin last fall, nearly 15 years after establishing the Mann Center, he continued to voice his desire to see Samford’s students develop through virtue and character education. He was an inspiration to me,” Taylor said.

Mann was a beloved member of the Samord community. Aside from being named Alumnus of the Year, he was also the first recipient of the university’s Ethics-in-Business Award in 2006. The award, which was later renamed as the Marvin Mann Ethics-in-Business Award, recognizes individuals who embody professional achievement and personal integrity, who display an uncommon commitment to leadership through service, and who have left their marks of influence on institutions and industries without compromising Christian virtue or charity.

With this generous, historic and record-setting gift, Samford will continue to honor Mann’s legacy through modeling his commitment to scholarship, leadership and service to others. For those interested in learning more about giving to Samford, please visit Samford.edu/giving.

National Pro-Life Leader Welcomes Pro-Abortion Protests at Churches

Dr. Reverend William Devlin, New York City Pastor, Invites Pro-Abortion People to Protests at Churches. The long term national pro-life leader, invites pro-abortion people protestors to all churches nationwide. He said “As a pastor and national pro-life leader since 1980, I invite those who are pro-abortion to every church in America. We welcome you to come and protest at our churches and we invite you to come to hear the Good News of Jesus Messiah and His pro-life message-not only for women, mothers, children and unborn children but also personally for you. Our doors are always open to you, pro-abortion people. We are ready for you. We have no animus toward those who would disagree with our message of hope, life, grace, love and mercy. We pray as you come to our churches and places of worship, Catholic, Protestant, churches of all colors, races, ethnicities, Black and Brown, AAPI, et al, that you would hear the life-changing and transforming message of the hope of Jesus, the only Savior. As a hard-core atheist and God-hater at the age of 18, four months before I left to fight in the Vietnam conflict, I heard the Good News of Jesus from a fellow hitchiker and had a life-changing transformation on June 23, 1971 on the San Diego Freeway (Costa Mesa exit). So, please come and be liberated by the Liberator, Jesus Messiah. We look forward to seeing you.”

Devlin is the outreach pastor of Infinity Bible Church in the South Bronx and also the volunteer CEO of two international humanitarian organizations, REDEEM! and http://www.WidowsAndOrphans.info

A bit of history: While an elder in a Presbyterian Church in the city of Philadelphia in 1992, pro-abortion protestors came to Devlin’s church, New Life Presbyterian Church, at 425 East Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia. The pro-abortion people came to New Life Church because many of our members/leaders were involved in the Philadelphia pro-life movement; many of the members were welcoming pregnant mothers who were in need of a home, several adopted children and many attended pro-life prayer meetings and rallies at local abortion facilities. At that time in 1992, the pro-abortion protestors were greeted with kindness, love and grace. They were offered coffee and donuts while they were protesting outside the church. Church members gathered in a circle around the pro-abortion protestors and sang songs and prayed for the pro-abortion people. All went well-no arguments, no shouting, no incidences. Devlin states, “We welcomed pro-abortion protestors thirty years ago; we shall welcome them at every church in America. We invite you; please come.”

Mike Pence advices President Joe Biden to speak out forcefully against the planned demonstrations at Catholic churches

Former Vice President Mike Pence said in a media interview that President Joe Biden should “speak out forcefully” against the planned demonstrations at Catholic churches amid the fallout from the recent leaking of an initial draft majority opinion that could overturn the U.S. Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade.

“President Biden should speak out forcefully, make it clear that those who support his view on abortion, on the Supreme Court, let their voice be heard, but heard peacefully and respect the law,” Pence told The Daily Wire in an interview Saturday.

The pro-abortion group Ruth Sent Us, which describes itself as a group working to “force accountability using a diversity of tactics” from the “6-3 extremist Supreme Court,” is urging abortion supporters to “stand at or in a local Catholic Church Sun May 8” as a show of support for Supreme Court precedent that has legalized abortion nationwide. …. this news is developing on Christian Post ( Read more … )

Pray.com ventures into the Metaverse with Launch of NFT on National Day of Prayer

As reported in their press release, Pray.com announced the release of its first non-fungible token (NFT).

Pray.com is the first faith-based company into the metaverse, launching the original prayer NFT as part of its Web3, Crypto and Metaverse educational initiative, PRAY TEAM. A pray.com source said,

“This launch is for Christians who want to learn about cryptocurrency. Anyone who participates in the National Day of Prayer livestream will receive the NFT, a National Day of Prayer coin. This is a unique opportunity for the Christian community to be at the forefront of technology and help shape it for good,” said Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Pray.com, Ryan Beck. “Crypto, Web3, NFTs and the Metaverse are reshaping the future of technology, and Pray.com is leading the charge for Christians around the world to be a part of it by building the first global community for Christians to learn about crypto, and by creating new technologies for faith-based content.”

Pray.com is excited to work with the National Day of Prayer Task Force, Open3.com, POAP.xyz, and Polygon.technology to introduce Christians to the world of Crypto by offering a unique Proof of Attendance NFT for those attending the 2022 National Day of Prayer. Pray.com will be launching the NFT on the Polygon network while using the Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP). Dr. Malachi O’Brien, a leader in the NFT and POAP space, stated the significance of the event, “Pray.com is making Web3 history with its National Day of Prayer NFT.”

“Web3 is growing at a rate of over 100% year-over-year and is expected to reach 1 billion users by 2027. This is exciting for Christians and the Church because these technologies bring power to communities and people rather than platforms,” Beck added. “They enable communities and people to take back ownership of their data and protect themselves from censorship.”

In fact, early adopters of the Christian community, such as James Lawrence and Matt Hayes at Engiven.com, have already started to explore the potential of Web3, developing a platform to make cryptocurrency donations accessible to 501c3 organizations.

According to Lawrence, Engiven’s Co-founder and CEO, “Cryptocurrency is rapidly becoming a powerful new asset to spur on generosity and elevate Kingdom growth. We’re seeing significant engagement from both givers and ministries as crypto and NFTs are leveraged to bring greater financial impact and ministry self-reliance.”

“We believe in freedom of religion and the promise of Web3 technology to create a censorship-free future,” said Steve Gatena, Founder and CEO of Pray.com. “This is the first step toward that future for the Church.”
