The Detroit Lions now have a big need at DT, what will they do in free agency to fix that problem

Christian Post Report – The Detroit Lions may be a little bitter over losing their best defensive players and NFL firebrand Ndamukong Suh.

“[They] can’t finalize until Tuesday, We will hope he comes to his senses,” an unnamed team official told Josina Anderson of ESPN. The Lions reportedly made a record-breaking offer to Suh off their own but a combination of more guaranteed money and the fact that Florida does not collect an income tax were enough reason for Suh to pick Miami.

If there was any chance of the Lions retaining Suh, these comments sure won’t help. While Detroit did make the playoffs last year they have been a floundering franchise just like the Miami Dolphins. It seems pretty silly to suggest Suh not take the best deal that was offered to him.

While no deal can be finalized till Tuesday, is seems highly unlikely that Suh will balk at the offer from the Dolphins in favor for the NFL team that drafted him. Since the team also declined the option on Nick Fairley’s rookie deal they are now very thin at the Defensive Tackle position. The team needs to resign him and will probably have to over pay to keep him.

The next best option would be CJ Mosely who started 8 games in Detroit last year. However, he is not the talent pass rusher the nose tackle in the 4-3 system really needs but he is familiar with the scheme and at 31 years of age wouldn’t cost that much. Mosely is a better fit as a rotation player but makes a ton of sense for a team that has lost a good deal of its depth at this position.

Free agent Dan Williams has the skill set that the Lions need for this position and at 27 is still in the prime of his career.
