Christian Post Report – The World Boxing Council has released the first glimpsed of the $1 million emerald colored diamond-encrusted WBC belt that will go to the winner of the Mayweather – Pacquiao Fight on May 2.
The winner of the Floyd Mayweather, Jr. – Manny Pacquiao mega fight on May 2 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas will go home with a diamond-encrusted emerald green WBC belt worth $1 million that the World Boxing Council unveiled to the media.
The belt will merely be a bonus for the winner of the highly anticipated fight. Based on the contract the fighters signed, Mayweather is expected to receive $180 million in cash, while Pacquiao gets 40 percent of the prize at $120 million.
Boxing fans had earlier voted for the emerald green diamond-studded design over an onyx version 53 percent to 47 percent after the WBC held a public vote for both belt designs on their website.
Previously, the WBC presented a diamond version of the championship belt that they awarded to Pacquiao after he defeated Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in twelve rounds in 2009. It also awarded another diamond belt to Mayweather for his 2013 defeat of Mexican fighter, Saul Alvarez.
This year’s specially crafted WBC championship belt is on the line for what is being dubbed the “Fight for Eternity” between Mayweather and Pacquiao, a match that has been nearly six years in the making.
According to the WBC, the belt’s new design was created to reflect what is being called one of the most momentous fights in boxing history, and “to appropriately recognize the winner of this titanic and epic event.”
The Mayweather – Pacquiao fight is expected to break pay-per-view and live-gate sales records.
