One of the most heart-wrenching scenes in the hit medical drama TV series “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 was when couple Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) has to let go of their newborn son, Samuel, after he was diagnosed with a deadly disease of the bones.

Christian Post Report – Meredith contemplates whether she’s better off without Derek, on Grey’s Anatomy.

It was a tear-inducing moment when the couple tried to hold on to their son for what little time he got before his fragile, little body succumbed to the illness. Fans have been wondering since then as to how the two would move on with their family life.

Speaking with E! Online, show creator Shonda Rhimes clarified that avid followers of the popular TV series might have to hold off with April and Jackson’s story.

“I don’t really know if that’s what they’re going to be focused on now,” Rhimes said. “They will be focused on other things. If that experience is going to cause them to search elsewhere.”

Even Drew herself wasn’t sure about her character’s plan, whether or not they will be trying for another child. She, however, assured that the tragic incident would “solidify them as a couple.”

But a report from TV Line hinted that fans might see a “grittier” side of her. Could the tragedy affect her in a way that it might change our perspective of her?

“Moving forward, we see a grittier side of her. She doesn’t care about things that don’t matter anymore,” Drew said.

“She’s been to hell and back, and she has a scene in a later episode with a patient who does something inane to himself, and she has no patience for him, no compassion. So we’ll see that side of her come out, which will be alarming to the people that know her,” she revealed.

For the meantime, “Grey’s Anatomy” airs this week on ABC with episode titled “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and a synopsis from The Futon Critic reads:

“A patient’s condition sparks a conversation between Richard and Maggie about Alzheimer’s disease; April and Jackson struggle to return to their normal lives and Arizona is faced with the reality that Callie is moving on. Meanwhile, Meredith reveals her biggest fears about Derek.”
