Bradley Cooper is gearing to make his directorial debut for a remake of “A Star is Born,” a film he is also set to star in.

Christian Post Report – “American Sniper” actor Bradley Cooper is going behind the camera for the first time to direct the fourth remake of “A Star is Born,” taking over from Clint Eastwood. Cooper, who also has a role in the film, is hoping to get Beyonce to co-star with him.

Bradley Cooper returned to his hometown of Philadelphia Tuesday and promptly bought tons of clothing for the city’s homeless population.

Cooper, 40, who recently received an Oscar nomination for producing “American Sniper,” is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to produce the reworked classic, as well. Beyonce was in talks with Eastwood to play the lead role until she dropped out due to her pregnancy.

The iconic movie first premiered in Hollywood in 1937. The Technicolor film starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, then was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason. The last remake in 1976 featured Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

In all three films, an aspiring starlet enters show business and is mentored by an older, more experienced, and declining male star. In the process of establishing her career, they fall in love with each other. The aging mentor, whose career has seen better days, becomes despondent when the young and talented protégé outshines and out-earns him. In the end, he takes his life via alcoholism/drowning.

Cooper has bested other leading men for the role, including Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and Christian Bale, who had earlier expressed interest in playing the character of the older Norman Maine/John Norman Howard.

Clint Eastwood offered the lead to the “Serena” actor, and eventually handed over the directorial reigns to Cooper, as well.

While Beyonce has yet to be formally re-approached to take the lead opposite him, Cooper is hoping he’ll get a positive response from her to play the character of the young and impressionable singer/actress role opposite him.
