Twice in the New Testament believers are referred to as “pilgrims.” The apostle Peter addressed his readers, “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Pet. 2:11, NKJV), warning them to avoid carnal cravings which would hinder their spiritual progress.
