That’s the hope of “Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard, who’s taken his talents behind the camera to be the executive producer of the CBS comedy for a show about a man who decides to repent and live strictly by the Bible.
Galecki, 42, who grew up Catholic, told journalists at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour why it was so important to him to create a show that was centred around faith.
“I recognized that these conversations [about religion] weren’t being had despite the fact that… 80 per cent of people in the world subscribe their lives to some sort of spiritual belief,” he said.
“One of the biggest hurdles is the fear to have the conversation about [religion]… The best way to approach [a topic] that people may be uncomfortable with is with comedy.”
The show’s creator Patrick Walsh said a priest and a rabbi read every draft of the scripts to ensure they were both accurate and respectful of scripture.
Both Christians and people of other and no faiths took to Twitter to review the show.
One Twitter user tweeted: “Found my new favorite comedy. I’m an atheist and the priest cracks me up!!!”
