Memorise: “Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;” – 1 Timothy 3:3

Read: Joshua 1:5-9

5.There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

6.Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7.Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

8.This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9.Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 20-22, Mark 14:26-50

MESSAGE:

The best example of a true leader remains our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, let us consider some of the vital keys He had; humility, He showed humility several times and at a point, He stooped to wash the feet of His disciples (John 13:5). Jesus was not judgmental, He was never quick to pass judgement on His disciples or followers, this can be seen when a woman caught in adultery was brought to Him (John 8:4-10). Another key Jesus had is prayer, he prayed for all His disciples constantly; He interceded on their behalf (John 17:1-26). Jesus shielded His disciples from harm especially before the Pharisees, yet He did everything in purity. He was without sin.

If you want to be a leader, you need to possess these vital keys. Are you humble? Can you lead by example? Jesus and His disciples worked together, He didn’t act like the boss who would ask them to do things He wouldn’t do. He led by example. The truth is people couldn’t tell the difference between Him and His disciples because they did everything in common. Until you become like Jesus, you will not have these vital keys and if you don’t, you cannot lead well.

Prayer Point:

Jesus, please help me to be like you.

Hymn 11:

  1. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus,
    Ye soldiers of the Cross!
    Lift high His royal banner,
    It must not suffer loss.
    From victory unto victory
    His army shall He lead,
    Till every foe is vanquished,
    And Christ is Lord indeed.
  2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
    The solemn watchword hear;
    If while ye sleep he suffers,
    Away with shame and fear.
    Where’re yeah meet with evil,
    Within you or without,
    Charge for the God of battles,
    And put the foe to rout.
  3. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
    Stand in His strength alone;
    The arm of flesh will fail you,
    Ye dare not trust your own.
    Put on the gospel armour,
    And watching unto prayer;
    Where duty calls, or danger,
    Be never wanting there.
  4. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
    The strife will not be long;
    This day the noise of battle,
    The next the victor’s song.
    To him that overcometh
    A crown of life shall be;
    He with the King of glory
    Shall reign eternally.
