King of Jordan pays to restore Church of Jesus’ tomb

King Abdullah II of Jordan has contributed to the repairs of a number of holy sites in the Holy Land, including the place of Jesus’ baptism at the Jordan River and the Edicule, or ‘little house’, over Jesus’ tomb.

The Jordan News reported that Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem has expressed his gratitude on behalf of himself, the members of the Holy Synod, the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, and the clergy and members of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem towards the King for his continued commitment to the care of the historical sites and the constant effort of the Hashemite royal family in Jordan to promote unity between Islam and Christianity.

  

 

 In a press release issued on Monday, Patriarch Theophilos III said: “His Majesty’s donation is a practical implementation of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and reflects the King’s personal commitment to the security and future of the holy city,”
