Title IX Complaint Filed after Connecticut Abolishes Girls-Only Sports



A legal group representing three female Connecticut high school athletes filed a Title IX complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Tuesday, asserting that the state’s governing body is violating federal law by allowing biological boys to compete and win in girls-only events.


“This discrimination must end,” the complaint reads. It was filed with the department’s Office of Civil Rights by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).


It could have national implications.


Two biological boys named Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood, who identify as girls, have won 15 Connecticut girls’ state championship titles, Christian Headlines previously reported.


Neither athlete takes testosterone-suppressing hormones as required on the NCAA and international levels. Their victories came after the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) issued a rule allowing athletes to compete in any gender-specific sport that matches their identity.


The complaint asks the Office of Civil Rights to issue a declaration finding that Title IX “neither permits nor requires CIAC’s Policy that allows biological males to compete in high school women’s athletic events.” It further asks the office to issue an order requiring CIAC to revise its rules. The complaint also asks the office to require CIAC to wipe the biological boys’ wins from the books.
