Prayer protest planned in response to climate change report

The two week protest planned for 7th October, will involve a ‘faith bridge’ – where 24/7 prayer would be taking place together with non-violent direct action in central London.

Information released on Thursday by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – the world body for assessing the state of climate change, highlighted the potential dangers of the climate crisis to human life, if more was not done to stem its effects.

The study claims that 70-percent of the world’s ice-free land is affected by human activity.

While our food system alone creates a third of greenhouse gas emissions, the IPCC has warned that we need to improve the way forests are managed and food is grown to reduce pressure on land and resources.

CCA, the Christian wing of Extinction Rebellion is calling for immediate action to protect future generations.

CCA member Holly-Anna Petersen said: “Every report which comes out from the IPCC paints an increasingly bleak picture of the state of the world around us.

“Young people are pleading for us to act, because it is their futures which are at stake.

“A justice issue is already happening across our very dinner tables. Every minute that we do not take action, is a minute that we put our own desires above the needs of children.”

The United Nations’ latest study follows a warning last year, that “unprecedented” action must be taken to cut carbon emissions to zero by 2050.
