The 32-year-old striker was chosen as the guest editor in chief for the French publication ‘Jesus’.

Giroud told French newspaper Le Figaro that he uses any opportunity he can to talk about this faith.

“I try to speak about my faith whenever I can,” he said.

“I feel I have to use my media profile to talk about my commitment to Jesus Christ, and the matters that concern me.

“That is why I accepted the chance to edit September’s Jesus magazine. It’s very interesting for me.”

Giroud, who turns 33 on September 30, appears on the cover of the magazine with the headline “33 years old, the age of Christ.”

Giroud also expressed his disdain for current issues in football.

“When I see what’s happening in football these days – racism, homophobic banners – it makes me want to take a stance and say ‘stop’,” he said.

“We organised a gala in London recently to benefit Christians who are persecuted around the world. It went very well.

“This is unusual in the world of football, but sometimes when I go to church people call on me to help.

“It is all done humbly and discreetly, and it is something that means a lot to me.”
