Over many years of walking in my neighborhood early each
morning, I’ve learned to watch out for many things: cars, bikes, dog
“souvenirs,” and the occasional skunk among them.
I’ve never thought to beware falling iguanas.
If I were living in Miami, however, that’s just what weather
forecasters would be telling me to avoid.
As temperatures in the area dipped between thirty- and
forty-degrees Fahrenheit this week, the cold weather stunned the lizards. They
were then unable to grip the trees where they roost at night and began falling
to the ground.
The good news is that, when the day heats up and the sun’s
rays land on them, they recover quickly.
While we live on a dangerous planet, our greatest threat is
not physical but spiritual.
First Peter 5:8 warns us, “Your adversary the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The next
verse offers the solution: “Resist him, standing firm in your faith”
(v. 9).
