Topic: Abba Father [Teens Open Heavens 16, April 2018]
Memorise: And unto man he said, behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. – Jobs 28:28
Read: Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)
13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Bible In One Year: 1 Samuel 19-21, Luke 15:11-32
MESSAGE:
To fear God means to love and respect Him. To hold Him in high esteem and to keep away from doing anything that will offend Him. The Living God is your Father, and He wants you to relate with Him just the way you relate with your biological father who you love so much and look up to. Because you love and fear your earthly father, you will be careful not to offend him. You will avoid anything that can annoy him or make him unhappy. In fact, you will run away from anything that can bring shame or disgrace to him for fear of being disciplined. Just like we do with our earthly fathers, God wants us to relate with Him in love and reverence. He doesn’t want us to do anything to offend or hurt Him.
From today, see God as your Father. Talk to Him, tell Him your deepest secrets, and love Him just like you would love your earthly father. Most of all, fear Him because as loving as He is, He is also a consuming fire.
Action Point: Start building a relationship with God. Learn to relate with Him as your Father and be careful not to offend Him.

Hymn 10:
1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.
