‘Praise You in This Storm’: Teen Leads Worship in VA Town Hit by Tornado



A devastating tornado hit southwest Virginia last week and the communities are working to rebuild. In the midst of the destruction, a teen led a worship service, proclaiming God’s goodness even through trials.


. reports that the recent tornado destroyed many homes and businesses in the small town of Elon, Virginia, north of Lynchburg. Thankfully, there was no loss of life.


“The homes on Nottaway, Saponi and Mattoponi drive are filled with the finest people that you can ever know,” said Leecy Fink, who, along with her husband and five children lost their home to the tornado. “These parents and children are good to the core. They love their families; they love their neighbors like family; they love Jesus. Each family, I have heard, gave Him the credit for what we lived through … Thank you, God, for protecting my family, my people. We will rebuild. We will rebuild stronger. We will rebuild together.”


As the community began rebuilding, 17-year-old Tre Tyree stood amidst the rubble with a guitar and sang “Praise You in This Storm.”


Community members gathered to watch Tyree sing. The video shows them praying and embracing one another.


“I’ll praise you in this storm,” Tyree sings in the video while standing next to his girlfriend. “And I will lift my hands. For you are who you are./ No matter where I am. Every tear I’ve cried./ You hold in your hand….
