Pastor Cao, 60, had been doing humanitarian work in Myanmar, helping build schools for impoverished children. He frequently made the crossing between Myanmar and China but in March 2017 was detained and framed with illegal border crossing.

He was later sentenced to seven years and now China Aid is calling on the White House to take action and urge the Chinese government to free him.

His wife, Jamie Powell recently told a room of religious civil society leaders that she thought it was obvious her husband’s arrest had been planned and that he has lost 50 pounds since his arrest.

The couple have two sons, one of whom told the Huffington Post that authorities on the Myanmar border knew his father crossed the border regularly.

The petition to rescue him currently has 2,852 signatures and requires 4000 to get a response from the White House. 100,000 signatures would mean the petition would be reviewed and put to policy experts.
