MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 4 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Mercy Triumphs Over Judgement
TOPIC: Mercy Triumphs Over Judgement (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 4 January 2019)
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:7-12
MEMORY VERSE: “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.” – James 2:13
The MESSAGE:
The book of James is a letter from Apostle James to the Church about practical Christian living. It deals with how to respond to God and how to maintain Christ-like relationship with others. In the Beatitudes, Jesus proclaims, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will obtain mercy (Matthew 5:7). In James 2:13, our Memory Verse for today, Apostle James gives the opposite of the statement. In essence, Apostle James is saying, “Cursed are the unmerciful, for they will be shown no mercy.” The truth is that a Christian is not under God’s curse but is expected to show mercy and compassion toward others. What does “mercy triumph over judgement” mean? It means that mercy rejoices, glories and boasts against judgement. Whenever mercy conflicts with Judgement concerning us, mercy will win. As children of God in Christ, God’s mercy toward us will triumph over His judgement of us (Romans 8:1). Our sins may stand against us, the accuser may level charges before the throne of God against us, but Christ is our Advocate, who argues for us and prevents us from receiving the judgement we deserve.
God’s message to us in James 2:13, therefore, is that since God judges us with mercy and deals with us with his lovingkindness, we too should judge with mercy and appreciate God’s lovingkindness by demonstrating same to others.
How do we show mercy to others? This injunction requires action not talk. Jesus is our model of mercy. He demonstrated His love and mercy towards us by practically laying down His life for us. On our parts, showing mercy to others require that we take an action. We must walk the talk. The blind, the lame, the oppressed came to Jesus, asking Him for mercy because He had the reputation of showing mercy. We should emulate Jesus. In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus taught us that the Samaritan had compassion on the man and took steps to get him medical treatment so that he could live. When you feed the poor, clothe the naked and provide shelter to the homeless, you are showing mercy. Your action will not go unrewarded. Heaven will shower mercy on you as well.
Beloved, you may not be able to do all this in your power, but you will, if you ask for the help and enabling of the Holy Spirit. Whatever you may be passing through today, connect the mercy of God. Cry for mercy; approach the throne of grace boldly and obtain mercy and help! It is yours for the asking because you have an Advocate –Jesus Christ!
