Facebook Introduces App to Stalk Fellow Passengers Before Boarding Plane

No one wants to be sitting next to an oddball for the duration of an 11-hour flight. But surely stalking your fellow passengers online is more than a little creepy.
A new app will allow passengers to pry on their fellow fliers’ social profiles before even setting foot on the plane.
Quicket, a travel app for smartphones and tablets, which facilitates ticket booking, flight tracking and provides detailed airport maps, has released its updated version this week.

The ‘social check-in’ option allows passengers to view others who have chosen seats on the plane by just clicking on their avatar linked to their social profiles.
Nosy fliers can even log in anonymously enabling them to view other passenger´s avatars, without providing any of their personal information.
But luckily, your fellow passengers won’t be able to spy on you without your consent. ‘Only users who approve the social feature will be presented on the flight,’ said a spokesman.

To be seen or to see fellow passengers, air travellers will have to check in themselves.
Fellow passengers will then be able to look at their profile, read information about them and study their photographs.
The app’s iOS and Android versions both include Facebook ‘social check-in’.
Other features of the app including the ability to book tickets for yourself and companions, choosing from all available options; review seat options and luggage rules; check-in directly and track flights.

American Released from North Korea Says Detention Over Bible Worth It

Jeffrey Fowle, who became the center of an international incident when he left a Bible in North Korea, and who later served nearly six months in detention for doing so, knew exactly what he was doing.

He knew the risk and he knew the possible consequences. And he thinks it was all worth it.

He also now has a chore list about a mile long.

Fowle, a Miamisburg, Ohio, husband and father of three children, spoke publicly Friday for the first time since being released. He said that his visit to North Korea in April was motivated in part by a desire to visit the country, which few Westerners have seen in decades. But clearly this was a trip about faith —and proselytizing.

In the weeks before Fowle left Miamisburg for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, another American was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for spreading the word of God. So Fowle knew the risks.

“I did. I knew I was going against the laws of the DPRK,” Fowle said. “Having seen the plight of the people, I knew about the severe Christian persecution. I wanted to help them.”

So Fowle left a Korean/English Bible in a public bathroom in a restaurant/bar in Pyongyang. Clearly his tour group was being watched because the next day the tour guide asked if anybody had left anything behind. Fowle would not deny his actions, even though he knew it meant trouble. He raised his hand and said he left a Bible.

For two days nothing happened. Then, at the airport at Pyongyang, when he was preparing to leave the country, Fowle was detained.

He was held in his hotel room for nearly a month, and then a detention center for the next five months. Did he think God would protect him? “Yes, and I believe I was protected, I was never harmed physically,” Fowle said. “I was never in jeopardy of giving up faith.”

But that is not to say his time was easy. The beginning, especially, was arduous. Fowle did not know what his wife knew about his disappearance. He kept thinking of Tatyana waiting for him at an airport. He wondered about the fears of his children, Alex, 13, Chris, 11, and Stephanie, 9…Read More

More Evangelicals Gain Access into Brazil’s Congress

By a very slim margin Brazilian voters have returned leftist President Dilma Roussef to office for another four years.

Roussef won the national election with the support of many evangelicals, who now account for over 30 percent of the population.

But evangelicals were divided.

“If you go to the churches, you will have more or less the same that happened in the last elections last Sunday here in Brazil,” the Bible Society’s Erni Siebert said. “Half of the people will be in support of the government.”

To gain the support of evangelicals, the president downplayed her party’s pro-abortion and pro-homosexual initiatives. But while voters returned Roussef to the presidency, they also sent more evangelicals to Congress, making it the most conservative legislature in years.

Siebert is hopeful.

“Really we hope that these leaders will affirm their positions on God’s Word,” he said.

He said that doing this would be a testimony to society and that they would “bring a good influence to the country so the country will have the fear of God in their hearts.”

The reason Christians are multiplying and the nation is changing, Siebert believes, is because of Brazilians’ growing interest in the Bible. The Brazilian Bible Society distributes around seven million Bibles a year.

Nexus 6 and Nexus 9: Google’s New Phone and Tablet

In general, Google’s Nexus line of devices represents the epitome of how the company’s Android devices are supposed to look and feel. Google and a manufacturing partner collaborate on the gadgets; they run an unaltered version of Android, Google’s mobile operating system; and they receive updates as soon as they are available.

These devices usually give a glimpse into what Google is planning and what features will be coming to smartphones in the future.

Which brings us to the newest members of Google’s Nexus family, the Nexus 6 smartphone, Nexus 9 tablet, and Nexus Player set-top box. The three gadgets were unveiled earlier in October, and we finally got to try them out ourselves Wednesday at a press event in New York City.

Playing off the name of Google’s latest Android release, Android 5.0 Lollipop, the hands-on event was held in an art gallery that was transformed into an awesome candy-sodden diabetic nightmare — there was literally candy on the walls that you could, and I did, eat…Read More

Microsoft understands that Mac people have just as much work to get done as its Windows PC owners do. So, as it’s done for the past umpteen years, the company has announced that it will again bring its latest Office suite of programs for spreadsheets, word processing, email, and more to Apple’s line of computers.

Megachurch Mars Hill Plans to Dissolve: Either Go Independent, Merge or Disband

The Seattle-based megachurch Mars Hill, once led by pastor Mark Driscoll, has begun the process of dissolving, and its 13 regional congregations have been asked to either go independent, merge with another church, or disband entirely, announced Dave Bruskas, the church’s teaching pastor while in transition, at noon on Friday.

Although Driscoll was not mentioned in the “Local Mission, Local Churches” blogpost on the church’s website released as a letter to Mars Hill by Bruskas, the normally outspoken pastor resigned on Oct. 14 from the multi-city megachurch he and his wife helped found 18 years ago after a series of calls were made for him to step down from ministry due to his admitted “divisive” leadership style.

In the letter, Bruskas writes that the elders recognize that the “reorganization plan is a significant and complex undertaking on many fronts; however, our goal is to have the process completed by January 1, 2015.”

He asks the regional churches to be in prayer for local elder teams as they contemplate in the next few weeks whether to become an independent, self-governed church, merge with an existing church to create one independent, self-governed church, or disband as a church and shepherd members to find other local church homes. He adds that the decision will be made by the local church’s lead pastor and elder team…Read More

Boy Sees Image Of Jesus On a Tree

One resident of Rhode Island is convinced that an image of Jesus has appeared on a silver maple outside his home in North Providence.

Brian Quirk was returning from visiting his father’s grave on October 12 – the sixth anniversary of his death – when he spotted the image.

While others might walk past the 3-inch marking and give it no further thought, Quirk and his mother believe it resembles Jesus.

And while others might not agree, Quirk and his mother are happy to believe it.

They see it as particularly meaningful because the tree marks a special place for Quirk’s father prior to his death.

Quirk, who is recovering from open heart surgery, told The Valley Breeze: “Curiously, it is in the same area where my father would sit outside during his last few months before losing his battle with cancer.”

He described it as a “natural organic phenomenon to the faithful” and added that his devout Catholic mother “finds comfort knowing the image is there”.

“Its ability to evoke a spiritual sense of awe is immeasurable,” he said.

UN Advised To Step In To Prevent Genocide of Christians

Pointing to “the grave violations and abuses” committed by ISIS militants in the Middle East, Archbishop Auza, the Vatican’s nuncio to the United Nations (UN), called on the necessary UN agencies to take action “to prevent possible new genocides and to assist the increasing number of refugees”.

The archbishop, who heads the Holy See’s Permanent Observer Mission to the UN, said the Vatican “appeals in particular for the protection of the ethnic and religious groups, including the Christian communities, who are specifically targeted and victimised because of their ethnic origins and religious beliefs.”

The right of such communities and all displaced people to return to their homes and to live in dignity and safety must be respected, he added.

Archbishop Auza, who made his comments in a statement to the UN Security Council during an open debate on the situation in the Middle East, said the escalation of terrorism around the globe should be a catalyst for all nations to realise they have a responsibility “to protect people from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity and all forms of unjust aggression.”

He said that every religious leader in the entire Middle East region and around the world must promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue, denounce “every use of religion to justify violence” and educate people about the need for mutual respect. The Middle East needs constant prayers but, more than that, the region “requires … an adequate response by the international community…Read More

Pope Speaks On The Devil and Halloween

As millions of revelers around the world dress in ghoulish costumes to mark Halloween and the darker side of life, Pope Francis warned that the devil is no myth and must be fought strenuously with “God’s armor.”

Francis described Christian life as a continuous battle against Satan during his homily at morning Mass at the Vatican on Thursday (Oct. 30).

“This generation, and many others, have been led to believe that the devil is a myth, a figure, an idea, the idea of evil,” the pope told the faithful during Mass at the St. Martha guesthouse where he lives inside the walls of the Vatican.

“But the devil exists and we must fight against him.”

Basing his reflections on the Apostle Paul’s admonition that Christians must “put on the full armor of God” in order to resist Satan’s temptations, Francis likened life to a “military endeavor” and urged people against being carried away by passions and temptations.

“No spiritual life, no Christian life is possible without resisting temptations, without putting on God’s armor which gives us strength and protects us. … The truth is God’s armor.”

Meanwhile, an Italian exorcist, the Rev. Aldo Buonaiuto, suggested that Halloween should be replaced by a celebration of Christian saints and renamed “Holyween.”

He said too many people wrongly believe Halloween is a “simple carnival”; instead, he said, it masks “a subterranean world” based on the occult.

“For followers of the occult, Oct. 31 is the satanic new year,” he told the Italian daily La Nazione. “It’s a time for attracting new converts. And it’s also a time when exorcists have to work more.”

Buonaiuto is director of the Pope John XXIII Community Association, a Catholic organization fighting black magic sects and satanic cults, and is involved in Catholic training programs for exorcists.

With Halloween, he said, there is an increase in black magic rites, cemetery desecrations, thefts of sacred bones and the adoration of Satan, as well as demonic possessions.

Responsibility Of The American Believer

Today, many of America’s citizens wrestle with the intent of the founding fathers when they established this country. More than 200 years after the fact, people debate whether or not our nation was God-ordained. Well, anyone who knows God knows He established America on purpose. There’s no other nation like it on earth. There never has been and there never will be, at least not until other nations are able to place God in control like He is here.

His control of this country goes back to the beginning. There was a covenant made aboard the Mayflower ship, binding America and the Lord together. In the same way that the nation of Israel has a covenant with God, the United States does too. And just like He held every Jew responsible for how the nation of Israel responded to His prophets and His direction, He holds Christians responsible for America.

Ordained and Separated

Let’s compare what the Lord said in Romans 13:1-3 with how God established the United States:

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers [or “civil authority” in the Greek text]. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same.

Years ago, I learned about America’s covenant with God and I approached the Lord about the ungodly leaders in this country at the time. I wondered how these leaders could be ordained and separated unto us by Him. Everywhere I looked I saw more ungodliness. God reminded me of Israel’s King Saul. He had never planned for Israel to have a king. It was only because of Israel’s covenant with God and their request for a king that He gave them what they desired. Even later, King David’s leadership was not in God’s perfect will because He never planned for Israel to have a king. But out of His mercy, He fixed a bad situation with Saul and called David to be king.

In the same way, God showed me that the ungodly leaders in this country at that time were put in place because His people-Christians-chose them, either by voting for the ungodly or by not voting at all.

He said, A lot of My people did vote, but they ignored the sin side of that administration on account of money. But it was not that political party nor that person in office that brought financial prosperity to this nation. It was because more people had begun to tithe…since so many people had been preaching about it and preaching about heaven’s economy. That’s the reason the economy began to get right. But when My people gave politicians the credit for it, down it went.

If this nation is seeking God, then peace, prosperity and goodness can grow and the gospel can go around the world. This nation has to prosper spiritually because we have to take the Word of God to the world. Other nations are also called to do this, but because of how America was founded and because of God’s work here, our nation has become the Cradle of the Gospel and the Cradle of Democracy.

It’s Our Responsibility

Government is serious business. Politics, prosperity and the economy have never been political matters. They are spiritual matters because prosperity comes from God.

We are responsible for this nation because God gave it to us. Remember

2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

If you think our government is a secular institution and you don’t have anything to do with it since you’re a Christian, think again. God didn’t say the whole nation had to repent from evil. He only said His people had to repent. Only then will He heal our land. As one of His people, you will be held responsible for this nation. As born-again believers, it’s time for us to stand up together and clean house.

Part of taking a stand is carefully considering which candidate receives our vote. In doing that, we need to look at fruit in that person’s life and make sure they have the same values we do. And if a candidate or the people supporting a candidate are pushing abortion, sexual sin, pornography or anything like it, we need to reconsider supporting that person.

The people in the world aren’t divided about whom to vote for. They support people who will make it easier for them to sin.

Changing the Course

As Christians in America we haven’t been united, and we’ve done a pitiful job praying for our government. Look at 1 Timothy 2:1-3: “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.”

I became aware of this verse during my first two years in ministry. For more than 30 years I’ve been praying daily for the leaders of the world. In fact, it’s the first thing I bring up before God in my prayer time. Each day I pause and allow God to show me where He desires to use me and my faith. And many times, a short while after I’ve prayed about a situation, I hear about it. It’s an exciting place to be-to pray and see God work in government situations and know that the devil received a knock in the head.

There have even been situations when the Lord later told me that if I hadn’t been obedient to pray, He couldn’t have moved in an area of my life like He did. Since you were My partner in that, He said, I’m going to be your partner in this.
