In an interview with Mic, Kardashian West said she has worked for months to get a presidential pardon for 62-year-old Alice Johnson after she was found guilty of a non-violent drug crime.

“I’ve been in communication with the White House and trying to bring her case to the president’s desk and figure out how we can get her out,” Kardashian West said.

“That’s such a huge step from where we started with that not even being on their radar.”

Johnson, a great-grandmother, was sentenced to life in prison in 1993 without parole for drug and money laundering. She said it was the worst decision she ever made and came after she lost her job and needed to find a way to make money.

During her two decades in prison Johnson became an ordained minister and mentors women in prison.

Kardashian West said: “If you think about a decision that you’ve made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first-time nonviolent offense, there’s just something so wrong with that.”

She added that it was not a coincidence that she learned about Johnson’s case and believes she can use her fame to help people like Johnson.

“There was a reason why I was looking at my Twitter at that moment,” she said. “I was meant to come across it.”
