16,000 Accept Christ, 1.8 Million Watch Greg Laurie’s Virtual ‘Cinematic Crusade’

16,000 Accept Christ, 1.8 Million Watch Greg Laurie’s Virtual ‘Cinematic Crusade’

Pastor Greg Laurie on Tuesday said 1.8 million people watched Harvest’s A Rush of Hope evangelistic film Labor Day weekend, with 16,000 making professions of faith for Christ.

“We have a lot of bad news right now, I thought you all could use some good news!” Laurie wrote to his social media followers.

Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, is the host of the one-hour movie, which features clips from three Erwin Brothers films and performances from Christian artists For King and Country, MercyMe and Jeremy Camp. It streamed for free over the weekend.

The film answers “life’s greatest questions,” as Laurie put it.

“We’re breaking every record we’ve ever set in our history,” Laurie said in a Monday social media video, referencing the viewership.

The movie streamed for free Labor Day weekend. Laurie called the Labor Day screening “phase one” in the Rush of Hope campaign. Phase two, he says, involves purchasing “television time for next weekend and beyond.” He asked Christians to donate money to help get the film on TV

“We want to go into markets where we’ve never been before, in the areas we’ve never visited before with this powerful message of the gospel,” he said.

Laurie, at the beginning of A Rush of Hope, compares life to a movie. The backdrop for the film is a drive-in theater.

“Life is like a movie. It has a beginning, middle and…

#BoycottHobbyLobby Trends over ‘Vote Trump’ Display

#BoycottHobbyLobby Trends over ‘Vote Trump’ Display

Over the Labor Day weekend, multiple calls to boycott Hobby Lobby were made after one of its stores featured a pro-Trump display, The Blaze reports.

According to Business Insider, the display was posted by Twitter user Kari Brekke after she took the photo from the Facebook group page of the Lincoln Project, an anti-trump organization comprised of Republicans and former Republicans.

Brekke’s post, which was made Sunday evening, showed a display of large decorative letters that was made to read, “USA VOTE TRUMP,” which has since sparked outrage on social media with the viral hashtag #BoycottHobbyLobby.

“Ew,” wrote director Stephen Ford, in which Brekke replied, “double ew.”

“Don’t go to Hobby Lobby. They hate anyone who isn’t their flavor of Christian and deny their workers’ insurance,” another user tweeted, citing Hobby Lobby’s Christian stance.

Another user stated, “If I went there I would ‘accidentally’ knock it over!”

Conversely, the decorative display garnered praise from…

Beloved pastor, father of 4 killed in crash while on his way to help Hurricane Laura victims

The late Rev. Chuck Glass, of Northside Assembly of God in Bonifay, Florida | West Florida District Assemblies of God

Worshipers from the Northside Assembly of God in Bonifay, Florida, are mourning the loss of their pastor, Rev. Chuck Glass, after he was killed in a crash while traveling to Louisiana to help Hurricane Laura victims on Labor Day.

“We are deeply saddened and grieving for one of our West Florida Churches.
Please help us lift up the family, friends, and congregation of Rev. Chuck Glass of Northside Assembly of God, Bonifay, FL,” the West Florida District Assemblies of God announced on Facebook Monday.

“Pastor Chuck suddenly passed away from an accident while heading to Louisiana to help those affected by Hurricane Laura. We are broken over this loss, and our prayers will be with his family and Northside,” the statement continued, noting that Glass was a “servant-hearted pastor and faithful husband.”

In a statement from Northside Assembly, the church said it was comforted to know that the late pastor, who leaves behind a wife and four children, did not suffer.

“As many of you probably know, Pastor Chuck passed away this morning. The doctors said that he was…

How should Christians vote? – Denison Forum

Adobe Stock

Politics and religion certainly make for a combustible mix, and the Bible doesn’t provide Americans with a ready-made formula for combining the two.

Jesus did say that you should “render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21). But the Bible doesn’t speak directly to the workings of a representative democracy, and that can lead to some explosive disagreements about how to vote.

When President Donald Trump suggested that if challenger Joe Biden were elected it would “hurt God,” a columnist for Religion News Service compared this year’s presidential race to the bitter campaign of 1800. Federalists like Alexander Hamilton, supporting incumbent John Adams, branded eventual winner Thomas Jefferson an atheist. Unlike Biden, who called Trump’s attack “shameful,” Jefferson didn’t respond.

But faith can also elevate political discussion, appealing to what Abraham Lincoln called “the better angels of our nature.” In George Washington’s Farewell Address to the nation in 1796, he wrote, Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.”

Just as in every other area of life, Christians should draw on biblical principles when deciding on the candidates or positions to support.

Are Christians Republicans or Democrats?

“While there must be the institutional separation of church and state, there can never be a separation of God and government,” Dr. Tony Evans wrote in his book How Should Christians Vote?

Evans cited example after example of politics in the Bible, including “two books, 1 and 2 Kings, that strictly deal with the rule and reign of government leaders.” He added, “The greatest political statement in the Bible is the declaration of Revelation 19:16 that when Jesus Christ returns to earth to rule, He will come as ‘King of Kings and Lord of…

Police Let Pro-Lifers Paint ‘Black Preborn Lives Matter’ Outside Planned Parenthood in Baltimore

Police Let Pro-Lifers Paint ‘Black Preborn Lives Matter’ Outside Planned Parenthood in Baltimore

Students for Life of America partnered with two other pro-life groups Saturday to paint “Black Preborn Lives Matter” on a street outside a Baltimore Planned Parenthood clinic, saying the abortion provider targets minority-dense neighborhoods and that the unborn need a voice.

Police did not issue citations for the artwork, which was done with temporary paint that washes away during rain.

The pro-life activists used yellow paint to write the message on the 300 block of North Howard.

“[The message] will remain here unless the city wants to come take it out, and that would be outside the police department,” Baltimore Police Sgt. Vincenzo Julio told the Baltimore Sun.

Police also noted that the city has allowed other public artwork on streets in recent months.

Students for Life of America, The Frederick Douglass Foundation and the Human Coalition Action joined together to paint the letters.

Students for Life said African American women make up 13 percent of the female population but 38 percent of all reported abortions. Four out of five Planned Parenthood clinics “are within walking distance of minority-dense neighborhoods,” Students for Life said, quoting a Thomas More Society Supreme Court brief.

Students for Life had sent a letter to Baltimore Mayor Bernard Young, asking for permission to paint the letters. The group said it never received a…

12,000 People Gather for Worship Service at California State Capitol

12,000 People Gather for Worship Service at California State Capitol

In California, 12,000 people have gathered on the Capitol Grounds to worship God. The move was apparently illegal in California, but Sean Feucht, who held the service, says freedom of religion is a right that everyone should have, regardless of what State Officials have to say.

Sean Feucht has been leading worship services across the country, but the one in California is especially important, considering some parts of California, like Los Angeles, have some of the most stringent government lockdowns in the country, CBS Sacramento reports.

In a tweet, the worship leader and pastor insisted that “God is not done with California.” Feucht also noted that the official capitol police estimate said 12,000 people attended the revival event. The tweet included an aerial view of the event.

In a statement on his website, Feucht explains:

“Powerful politicians and social media giants have engaged in unchartered abuses of religious liberty, silencing the faithful, banning our voices, and outright attacking our God-given right to declare His goodness.

States across America, including here in California have shut down church services and even outlawed singing in church. Instagram and Twitter…

Author Jen Hatmaker Announces Divorce, Requests Privacy to ‘Heal and Rebuild’

Author Jen Hatmaker Announces Divorce, Requests Privacy to ‘Heal and Rebuild’

Author Jen Hatmaker revealed Monday that she and her husband Brandon are divorcing, and she requested privacy as her family seeks to “heal and rebuild.”

“Our loss is not for public devouring,” she wrote on Facebook.

Hatmaker, the author of Of Mess and Moxie and several other books released by Christian publisher Thomas Nelson, sparked controversy in recent years by asserting the Bible affirms LGBT relationships and same-sex marriage. LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention stopped selling her books in 2016.

“We are in a moment with no handbook and without a single clue how to navigate this privately, much less publicly,” she began in her Facebook post. “I don’t know how to hide grief, so I haven’t, and I am grateful for your absolute decency these last few weeks. I don’t know how to say this, and I still cannot believe I am even saying it, but Brandon and I are getting divorced. Although the details are ours alone, this was completely unexpected, and I remain stunned as we speak. I am shocked, grief-stricken, and broken-hearted.

“Although this community is impossibly dear, beloved to me, in case you are an interloper who revels in the pain of another, I beg you to spare us your cruelty. We have suffered so greatly,” she wrote. “… The kids and I are getting away to retreat for a while, and I ask for your kindness … and for some…

Greg Laurie talks what it means to be Christian; thousands commit to Christ at virtual Harvest crusade

Pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie’s annual Harvest crusade was held virtually this year because of the coronavirus, and thousands have committed to Christ for the first time.

The longtime Southern California pastor noted the many ills that have proliferated given the pandemic and the shakiness of the economy. Yet the big questions, such as “Why do I exist?” remain with everyone.

“You exist to have a relationship with God. There is nothing that this world offers that will fill a hole in your heart that was designed to be filled by God himself. There’s no drug, there’s no experience, there’s no possession, there’s no accomplishment, nothing,” Laurie said during the weekend cinematic event called “A Rush of Hope.”

“Being a Christian is not just following a creed, or memorizing some Bible verses, or going to church occasionally. Being a Christian is having Christ live inside of you.”

Knowing Christ does not mean being an odd, religious person, he went on to say.

Greg Laurie Hosting ‘Cinematic Crusade’ and Tackling ‘Life’s Greatest Questions’

Greg Laurie Hosting ‘Cinematic Crusade’ and Tackling ‘Life’s Greatest Questions’

A new short film hosted by pastor Greg Laurie launches online this weekend as part of a “cinematic crusade” to answer what he calls “life’s greatest questions.”

The film, A Rush of Hope, will stream for free Sept. 4-7 at Harvest.org and on various social media platforms. It was produced by Kingdom Story Company and features clips from Woodlawn, I Can Only Imagine and I Still Believe, along with performances from For King and Country, MercyMe and Jeremy Camp.

Ben Smallbone (Steve McQueen: American Icon, Priceless) directed it, while Jon and Andrew Erwin served as executive producers.

“We’ve never done anything like this before,” Laurie said in a statement. “The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed all our plans, but it has opened an incredible window of opportunity for the gospel. Now, more than ever, people are hungry for something the world cannot give them. This cinematic crusade is designed to reach as many people as possible and help them answer the deepest questions of their hearts.”

All three movies discussed in the A Rush of Hope are based on true stories.

Laurie, at the beginning of the film, compares life to a movie. The backdrop for A Rush of Hope is a drive-in theater. Laurie also interviews Camp and MercyMe’s Bart Millard.

“Life is like a movie. It has a beginning, middle and end – full of surprises, twists and turns, storm clouds and…

Why Candace Cameron Bure won’t return to “The View”: Two questions that can change your world

(Adobe Stock)

A gender reveal party sparked a wildfire that has grown to nearly ten thousand acres in California as of this morning. A woman died over the weekend while hiking amid a record-setting heatwave in the state. And at least 147 COVID-19 cases have been linked to a wedding reception in Maine.

In the midst of all the bad news, one Christian celebrity wants to focus on the good news.

Candace Cameron Bure was asked recently if she would ever reprise her role on the talk show The View. The actress chuckled and said, “No. I’m done with that chapter. I’m very grateful for that time in my life but I don’t want to talk about politics.” She explained: “Not because I don’t believe that my viewpoints and opinions are important, but I would much rather share Jesus with people. That’s really my passion.”

Notice that she doesn’t want to talk about religion or even Christianity, but about Jesus. That’s because Jesus is a real, living person, not just an idea or a worldview. He has changed her life, and she wants everyone to know that he can change their lives as well.

Over the Labor Day weekend, my wife and I watched A Rush of Hope, Greg Laurie’s marvelous and moving cinematic invitation to meet Jesus. After blending inspirational films and music about our Lord, the program then focused on the pastor as he explained who Jesus is and what he wants to do in our lives.

Laurie did what Candace Cameron Bure wants to do: share Jesus with people. In a broken world filled with disaster, disease, and despair, he is our only hope. Even more than we need a COVID-19 vaccine and solutions for the divisiveness of our day, we need to know him.

Not just about him. We need Jesus.

The danger of the Thomas theorem

Here’s our problem: secularization has convinced secular people that Jesus is merely an idea or historical figure they can ignore if they wish. Even Christians can fall for this deception, turning a…
