Independent Faith Film Earns Two Awards

The highest-grossing independent faith film of the year “God’s Not Dead” is now being honored with two prestigious awards, including the GMA Dove Award for Inspirational Film of the Year.

During an upsurge in faith-based films in the theater, “God’s Not Dead” won the coveted Dove Award in a category that included “Grace Unplugged,” “Heaven Is For Real,” “Son of God,” and “When Calls The Heart.” Furthermore, “God’s Not Dead” also earned the Film Television Impact Award at this year’s KLOVE Fan Awards in June.

The widespread recognition directed at “God’s Not Dead” took filmmakers by surprise, especially since the film had a budget of just over $2 million yet received an initial $9.2 million at the box office in its first week on just 780 screens. Perhaps more surprised than anyone else in the entertainment industry were producers Michael Scott, David A.R. White, Russell Wolfe and Elizabeth Travis of Pure Flix…Read More

World Council Of Churches Expresses Concern Over Asia Bibi’s Case

World Council of Churches General Secretary, the Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, has expressed profound concern over the rejection of an appeal against the death sentence for a Pakistani Christian woman, Asia Bibi, convicted under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy law.

To promote tolerance, religious harmony and protection of the rights of religious minorities, Dr Tveit said it is important that justice is ensured in cases like that of Asia Bibi.

“The alleged circumstances of the incident which led to the blasphemy charges against Ms Bibi are highly questionable, and the imposition of the death penalty in this case is totally inappropriate.

“Apart from the issues of religious freedom, the charges, on-going imprisonment and threat of execution seem to have infringed Ms Bibi’s basic human rights,” Dr Tveit said in a statement issued from the WCC headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland in the past few days.

Calling the blasphemy law “prone to abuse”, Dr Tveit expressed his hope that the Pakistan Supreme Court will reverse the decision from the lower court in Bibi’s case.

“I look forward to encouraging people of good will, both in Pakistan and in the wider world, to work together to encourage the amendment in the blasphemy law under which such charges have been made against Asia Bibi,” Dr Tveit said.

Over a number of years the WCC has expressed concern on the abuse of Pakistan’s blasphemy law, along with its member churches in the country…Read More

Angie Martinez Criticized Over Retweet Of Joel Osteen’s Tweet

Everybody needs encouragement and inspiration. But when a popular mainstream NY radio host re-tweeted Houston mega pastor Joel Osteen, a Christian tweeter had some not-so-nice things to say.

Instead of celebrating that Power 105.1 FM jock Angie Martinez was seeking a spiritual lift from a preacher, criticisms were thrown out.

Ironically, the quote from Osteen that touched off the minor Twitter beef said, “Don’t fight against everything you don’t like. That’s an opportunity to come up higher.”

A Twitter user named ERB, whose profile reads, “Jesus Christ of the Holy Bible is the Son of God. My name is written in the Lambs Book of Life, Amen,” shot off this response:

“@JoelOsteen whoa when u get RTs by hiphop celebs u know u lukewarm in ur spirituality.”

For the social media-challenged, an “RT” stands for a re-tweet, which means, if someone likes something you say on your Twitter page, they can share it on theirs.

And let’s just say, Osteen, with is nearly 3 million followers, gets plenty RTs.

Martinez, who is highly respected within the Hip Hop community, hit back with, “so ur a judgmental man of God. got it,” adding two emoticons on the end of the rebuttal—an image of a heart and one of praying hands.

Despite being briefly chided by Martinez, ERB didn’t let that stop him from railing against Osteen who often comes under fire for what some call his “Theology Lite” approach to the gospel…Read More

Coroner Orders SCOAN Pastor To Appear In Court Or Be Arrested

Following the collapsed building belonging to Prophet TB which left about 116 persons dead, the prophet has been threatened with an arrest by the coroner if he fails to honour the court’s invitation.

Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe on Wednesday said TB Joshua is not above the law while reacting to the church’s counsel, Lateef Fagbemi’s suggestions as to inviting those who can be of assistance from the SCOAN.

According to Vanguard report, Komolafe who said if TB Joshua cannot come to court should give an explanation stated:

“The court has the power to summon whoever it deems necessary to assist it,” The counsel should advise the Prophet to come. The church is not on trial. It’s not a matter of ego. Nobody is above the law. The court will be fair to all.“If he is an institution with immunity, the court will not even go there. If the man refuses to come, he can be arrested… He has to appear. We summoned The Prophet. We summoned the contractors.”

On September 12 a guest house belonging to the Synagogue church collapsed which killed no fewer than 115 people including 84 South Africans who were present at the time of the tragedy.

Following the collapse of the Synagogue guest house, several groups have called for the arrest and trial of T.B Joshua.

Although the building inspectors attributed the addition of extra floors to the guesthouse, without strengthening the foundations, as the likely cause of the collapse.

Prophet TB Joshua as since reacted to the building collapse saying a low-flying aircraft was responsible for the collapse, however saying: “Hard times may test me, they cannot destroy me.” In few weeks the truth behind the collapsed building will be revealed”.

Proophet TB Joshua will testify at the inquest on November 5.

Facebook CEO to Hold Q&A Session With Users

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be hosting a live-streamed Q&A session on November 6, answering the most popular questions asked by users.

The 30-year-old CEO noted the Q&A session with the community is an extended version of the internal sessions he holds every Friday with Facebook’s employees. While the event may seem similar to an ‘Ask Me Anything’ Q&A session on Reddit, it’s based on the number of likes a question gets.

Facebook users can submit their questions on a dedicated ‘Q&A with Mark’ page, and Zuckerberg will be answering as many of the most-liked questions as he can in an hour. The live-stream will be available to view on the same Facebook page, at 2pm PST Thursday (3:30am IST Friday).

“On Thursday, November 6 at 2pm Pacific, I’ll be hosting our first public Q&A at Facebook. Ask me a question below in the comments, or vote on a question you want me to answer by liking it. I’ll be answering questions for about an hour, and will try to get through as many as I can,” said Zuckerberg on the Facebook ‘Q&A with Mark’ page.

More than 3,000 questions have been asked on the Facebook Page since Mark’s announcement 8 hours ago. The questions by users cover topics ranging from the inclusion of a ‘dislike’ button to “Why did you force us to install Facebook Messenger?”

Zuckerberg recently had a Q&A session at Tsinghua University in China. The young billionaire entertained the students at the Beijing university earlier this week with a half hour talk in his recently learned Mandarin Chinese.

Bishop T.D Jakes Daughter Set to Tie the Knot Next Month

One Church International Pastor Touré Roberts has been called a heretic and opportunist after apologizing to Destiny’s Child and scolding the church for speaking against their questionable career choices.

But Bishop T.D. Jakes’ daughter Sarah Jakes simply calls him “babe.” The two are officially engaged to be married and will tie the knot next month.

The couple, both divorced with children, met in the spring of this year. At the time, the single mom who had her first child at 14, was promoting her book, Lost and Found, and taping an episode of the Dr. Phil Show, which aired April 1.

Jakes announced her split from her former NFL husband Robert Henson, who is also engaged to a new woman, two years ago.

Things progressed quickly with the future First Lady’s new preacher man. Roberts proposed September 22 over dinner, where he slipped an expensive diamond on Jakes’ finger that he purchased while the two were in Maui.

Their first date happened at Sarah’s insistence according to the pastor’s re-telling of the story.

During a church service where they ended up sitting next to each other, at the conclusion of the sermon, the speaker instructed congregants to hold hands with a neighbor and pray.

“I take her hand and it’s the first time our hands touch. I take her hand and I am not holding the hand of a stranger,” said Roberts in a video teaching on finding your soul mate.

“I didn’t know what it was at the time, but I’m like, you are somebody who means something seriously significant to me, just by the embrace of the hand. That’s how deep it is.”

He continued, “Then, we’re getting ready to part and she stepped out on faith and she said, ‘I’m gonna be in LA in a few weeks and you are taking me to dinner.’ I said, ‘Yes ma’am.’”… Read More

Church Speaks Out Against Exploitation Of Young People

A church in Manchester has urged Christian leaders to speak out against the exploitation of young people in the wake of an inquiry into the issue in the area.

The inquiry found that sexual exploitation of children has become the ‘norm’ in some streets and estates in Greater Manchester.

It was launched after nine men of Pakistani origin were jailed for grooming girls in Rochdale back in 2012.

The study carried out by Tony Lloyd, the police and crime commissioner for Greater Manchester, blamed the sexualisation of children and greater exposure to explicit music videos.

Mr Lloyd claims victims of child grooming simply haven’t been listened to in the past.

He said: “What we’ve got to try to make sure is that we’ve now got a police service that is receptive to recognising that victims are just that: victims.”

Youth pastor Paul Reid from Audacious Church Manchester told Premier’s News Hour why he thinks the Church has a duty to act.

Speaking on Premier’s News Hour, he said: “We have a responsibility to talk about it because everybody else is, and if our young people can’t find out what’s right and wrong and what’s healthy and what’s good from us, then they’ll just go somewhere else.

“There are a wealth of opinions and voices out there; the Church just has to have a voice.”

16th-Century Hebrew Bible Vanishes

Thou shalt not forget to require a signature.

That’s the lesson for Gene Albert, a Virginia religious artifacts dealer who sold a rare, 16th-century, eight-volume Hebrew Bible for $7,000 on eBay to a Monsey, N.Y., man who insists he never received it.

Postal tracking shows the package was delivered Oct. 10, two days after Albert sent it from Lynchburg, Va., to Jacob Gestetner.

“Either he has it or it was stolen from his mailbox,” Albert said.

“Either way its gone and I’m out the money.”

The compact set of the second Estienne Hebrew Bible dates to the 1540s and was from the collection of Andrew Fletcher, a 17th-century Scottish politician renowned for his private library.

Oct. 10 was a Friday, the second day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Gestetner, who is Orthodox, sent Albert a message on eBay after Sabbath on Oct. 11, indicating that he had seen the tracking report but that he never got the package.

Albert responded the next morning to urge Gestetner to check with his mail carrier — and said it took another week for Gestetner to get back to him that he still hadn’t received it.

“So much time went by, I figured he had found it,” Albert said. “Why did he wait so long?”

An official at the post office in Monsey said the package had been scanned in as delivered and that the mail carrier indicated it was left outside Gestetner’s home.

Reached by phone, Gestetner declined to comment, saying the purchase was a private matter.

Albert said he was paid but must return the money under terms of the eBay agreement.

He filed a claim with the U.S. Postal Service and alerted the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America so that its members would watch out if anyone tried to sell the Bible. He said he also contacted several synagogues in the Monsey area in case it turns up at any of them.

Autor,Stephen Kings Speaks On Religion And Belief In God

Bestselling horror novelist Stephen King is set to release a new book about a Methodist pastor who loses his faith after an accident. “Revival” will hit book stores on Nov. 11.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, King compared the novel to his own experiences; King said he grew up in the Methodist church, but doubted organized religion since childhood. “Once I got through high school, that was it for me,” he said.

According to King, organized religion is “a very dangerous tool that’s been misused by a lot of people.”

Yet King still says that he believes in God “because it makes things better. You have a meditation point, a source of strength.” He continued, “I choose to believe that God exists, and therefore I can say, ‘God, I can’t do this by myself. Help me not to take a drink today. Help me not to take a drug today.’ And that works fine for me.”

King believes “in evil” as well, but has spent years trying to determine if evil is inside humans or if “there is a force in the world that really wants to destroy us, from the inside out, individually and collectively.”

Although, King said, “The older I get, the less I think there’s some sort of outside devilish influence; it comes from people.”
