Two-headed snakes and murder hornets: The power and privilege of faithful courage

There’s good news in what seems like bad news in today’s news.

Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t get any stranger, a two-headed snake was discovered in Florida. This after we learned that the first nest of murder hornets was found in the US.

The Asian giant hornet nest was discovered in Blaine, Washington, last Friday. The insects are known for their sting, which has been described as feeling like a hot nail driven into flesh. They also spray venom from their stingers, which can cause serious eye injuries.

One other headline from the world of science: “Naked mole rats kidnap each other’s babies, and turn them into slaves.” These rats produce massive colonies with as many as three hundred workers, the largest known colonies among mammals. Researchers have found rats that were kidnapped by a rival colony and made into enslaved workers.

Now to the good news: The two-headed snake in Florida is not venomous. The murder hornets in Washington were tracked down and destroyed by entomologists. And only two naked mole rat pups are known to have been stolen, at least so far.

How NASA will protect us from killer asteroids

In more bad news that isn’t, noted astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson warned recently that an asteroid could strike Earth the day before the November 3 election. However, he said the refrigerator-sized space rock is not large enough to do any serious damage. And data from NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies suggests there is zero chance that the asteroid will actually hit our planet.

In related news, NASA is building a space probe designed to protect us from killer asteroids. It launches next year and will be smashed into an asteroid seven million miles from our planet to…

‘Glory to God’: Trump Pardons Non-Violent Offender Serving Life in Prison

Just before debating Democrat candidate Joe Biden last week, President Trump pardoned an Indiana man who was serving life in prison for a non-violent crime, Faithwire reports.

President Trump pardoned Charles Duke Tanner because his life imprisonment sentence was a non-violent, first offense drug charge.

Tanner was imprisoned under Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden’s 1994 crime bill which landed millions of Black Americans in the prison system.

In a video uploaded to Twitter, Tanner thanked President Trump and credited God with his pardon.

“First and foremost, I wanna give all the praise and glory to God,” he said in the video. “Thank you for hearing me. But President Trump, I just want to thank you for giving me a second chance and believing in me and reading my petition. I’m just so thankful.”

The video was uploaded to Twitter and tweeted by Alex Bruesewitz, a conservative advisor to politicians, foundations and organizations.

In the video, the former prisoner says that the pardon…

The Difference between a “Can Do” Church and a “Can’t Do” Church

Every church has an organizational culture. Some churches have a culture of optimism. You can feel the energy in worship. Others are pessimistic. You can sense the deadness when you walk into the sanctuary.

Every church also faces obstacles. What is the difference between churches that approach obstacles with a “can do” attitude over others that have a “can’t do” attitude? What makes a church have a lively optimism over a dead pessimism?

We’re the right size. The people of the “can’t do” congregation believe the church is too small (or large) to accomplish something. The “can do” church is always the right size. Church size is not an issue for an optimistic church.

We have the right people. The “can’t do” church sees the people it doesn’t have as a problem. The “can do” church sees the people it has as an opportunity.

It’s always the right time. The “can’t do” church is stuck in the past or asleep dreaming about the future. The “can do” church believes now is the time to act.

We have the right staff. The “can’t do” congregation believes it must get staffing correctly aligned before ministry can be accomplished. The “can do” congregation doesn’t ignore needed staffing changes but also keeps moving forward with whatever staff is in place.

We have the exact resources God wants us to have.  The “can’t do” church believes more money is needed. The “can do” church does ministry with whatever resources God has…

Barrett Confirmed: Supreme Court Has 1st ‘Reliable Conservative Majority’ in 90 Years

Barrett Confirmed: Supreme Court Has 1st ‘Reliable Conservative Majority’ in 90 Years

The U.S. Senate confirmed Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court Monday, capping a rush to have her seated by Election Day and culminating a decades-long effort by conservatives to reshape the nation’s highest court from a left-leaning body to one that is more reliably right of center.

The Senate confirmed Barrett by a vote of 52-48, with Republicans comprising all the “yes” votes and Democrats joining one GOP senator (Maine’s Susan Collins) in voting no.

Barrett will replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was a hero of the Left and passed away Sept. 18. at the age of 87.

Barrett’s confirmation means President Trump has now named three justices to the Supreme Court – the most by one president in a single term since President Nixon, who placed four justices on the court during his first term in the late 1960s and early 1970s. (President Reagan nominated three justices during a two-term span in the 1980s.)

Trump, during a White House ceremony, called it a “momentous occasion.” Barrett took her constitutional oath during the ceremony from Justice Clarence Thomas.

“She is one of the nation’s most brilliant legal scholars, and she will make an outstanding justice,” Trump said.

Barrett previously served as a judge on the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and as a law professor at Notre Dame. She acknowledged during her…

John Macarthur’s Attorneys Denounce Reports of COVID-19 Outbreak at His Church

John Macarthur’s Attorneys Denounce Reports of COVID-19 Outbreak at His Church

LOS ANGELES (RNS) — Attorneys for Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church are condemning recent headlines declaring a coronavirus outbreak in the megachurch that has defied public health orders since July.

The Los Angeles Times on Thursday reported that three confirmed COVID-19 cases had been tied to the church. The headline for that story read: “Coronavirus outbreak strikes L.A. megachurch that defied public health orders.”

Jenna Ellis, attorney for John MacArthur and Grace Community Church, in a statement, said the cases shouldn’t be characterized as an ‘outbreak.’  She called the LA Times headline “grossly misleading.”

“Three very mild positive tests among more than 7,000 people is hardly news,” Ellis said.

Less than 1% is not an outbreak, she said.

“It has never been the Church’s position that it is only safe to hold services if no one ever tests positive, or for example, if no one ever gets the flu during flu season,” continued Ellis.

Los Angeles County’s health protocols for places of worship require that Grace Community Church report to the Department of Public Health when at least three cases of coronavirus are reported or identified within a span of 14 days.

That way, public health officials can determine if there is an outbreak and provide infection control guidance, technical support and site-specific…

Anti-Trump Group Plans to Cause ‘Serious Disruption’ if Trump Wins Election

Anti-Trump Group Plans to Cause ‘Serious Disruption’ if Trump Wins Election

With the 2020 presidential election just one week away, protestors are planning to do whatever it takes to see President Trump leave office no matter the outcome of the election.

The group, known as Shut Down DC, has outlined what they plan to do on Election Day and in the days to follow.

According to CBN News, the group claims that Trump plans to steal the election and will not concede if he loses.

“Trump has shown that he will stop at nothing to maintain his grip on power. Trump will not leave office without mass mobilization and direct action,” Shut Down DC’s webpage states.

On Nov. 3rd, Shut Down DC is calling people to meet at Black Lives Matter Plaza in downtown Washington D.C, nearby St. John’s Episcopal Church.

“On Election Day, when you’re done voting, doing election protection, or getting out the vote, come join us at Black Lives Matter Plaza,” the group states on their website.

“We’re inviting everybody who agrees with these organizing principles to work together to make this uprising happen. We’re going to make sure Trump leaves. From election night on, as the situation changes and evolves we all work together to make that happen.”

The group also told followers who are not in DC to likewise take action in their own communities.

“Organize in your community! Find out where the votes will be counted where you live. Make a plan…

‘I Was Wrong’: Albert Mohler Says He’s Voting for Trump after Opposing Him in 2016

‘I Was Wrong’: Albert Mohler Says He’s Voting for Trump after Opposing Him in 2016

Theologian and seminary president Albert Mohler says in a new column he has changed his mind about Donald Trump as president, even if he hasn’t changed his mind about Trump’s character.

Mohler didn’t support Trump four years ago and spoke out multiple times against the Republican nominee, writing in the summer of 2016 that evangelicals were tragically being urged to support the “lesser of two evils.”

This week, though, Mohler said he now supports Trump. Mohler made his arguments in a column, “Christians, Conscience, and the Looming 2020 Election.”

“I have had to think more deeply about how character is evaluated in a historic context,” wrote Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Trump’s judicial nominations and support for the pro-life causes helped sway Mohler, who didn’t believe in 2016 Trump would govern as a pro-life president.

“I was wrong,” Mohler wrote. “… I have no means of reading Donald Trump’s heart on this issue, but I can easily evaluate his actions. In terms of presidential action, Donald Trump has been the most effective and consequential pro-life president of the modern age. Furthermore, in both executive actions and court appointments, President Trump has gone far beyond what would have been politically necessary to secure his base.

“He has staked his place…

Hillsong Church launching Atlanta branch african-american pastors

Sam and Toni Collier, the lead pastors of Hillsong Atlanta. | Hillsong

Hillsong Church is launching a new location in Atlanta, Georgia, led by husband-and-wife duo Sam and Toni Collier, the first-ever African-American lead pastors of a Hillsong church.

“We want to start a movement that not only changes Atlanta, but changes the world,” Sam Collier, author, adviser to the MLK Jr. family, and founder of A Greater Story Ministries, told The Christian Post. “Just like God did with Martin Luther King Jr. in Atlanta nearly 60 years ago, there was a model that was built that went on to impact the entire world. We want to be a model of unity and understanding and bring about revival.”

The mission of Hillsong Atlanta, Collier told CP, is to “reach and influence the world by building a large Christ-centered, Bible-based church, changing mindsets and empowering people to lead and impact in every sphere of life.”

“Hillsong Atlanta is the marrying of many different worlds, racially, and even politically, to represent the fullness of God,” he said. “What better place to launch a church with this vision than in the birthplace of civil rights?”

Prior to pastoring Hillsong…

DeVon Franklin Hosts Faith-Based Event, Encourages Christians to Vote for Joe Biden –

DeVon Franklin Hosts Faith-Based Event, Encourages Christians to Vote for Joe Biden

On Sunday, Christian TV and film producer DeVon Franklin and his wife, actress Meagan Good, hosted a virtual faith-based event in their endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

According to The Christian Post, the GOTV L!VE: A Soul of the Nation Gospel Concert Special was broadcast online across the nation and in over 65 gospel stations. The event sought to encourage people of faith to cast their vote for Biden in the 2020 election.

“We are ready for a new administration, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the leaders that we need to see the progress and changes we all want,” Franklin said at the start of Sunday’s event.

“We need to bring back justice, compassion and civility to our country,” he asserted. “We’ve had over 220,000 American lives lost to COVID-19, millions unemployed and sliding into poverty and far too many black lives scarred and cut short by police brutality.

“And if we’re honest,” he continued, “a justice system that has never worked for everyone. We cannot afford to sit around and wait for change; we have to become the change we want to see.”

Biden and Harris also appeared in the virtual event and delivered remarks to faith voters in separate messages.

“Normally, on these Sundays leading up to the election, we are gathering together at church with our family and our friends. And we’re marching to…
