Faith-Based film, I Still Believe, Nominated for 2 People’s Choice Awards: ‘We Are So Pumped’

A prominent faith-based film from 2020 has received two nominations in a major mainstream awards ceremony.

I Still Believe, which released in theaters in March, was nominated Oct. 1 in two categories for the People’s Choice Awards: top Drama Movie of 2020 and top Drama Movie Star of 2020 (K.J. Apa).

Winners will be announced Sunday, Nov. 15 on E! (Entertainment television), and fans of the movie can vote for it online.

I Still Believe tells the true love story of Christian singer Jeremy Camp and his first wife, Melissa, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Camp eventually wrote a song, I Still Believe, about the trial.

The People’s Choice Awards, first held in 1975, honors the best in entertainment as determined by the general public. Although winners were originally determined by a Gallup survey, today they are chosen by online voting.

The film was directed by Jon and Andrew Erwin, who also made I Can Only Imagine, Woodlawn and Mom’s Night Out. It is a record number of nominations for the Erwins, who received one People’s Choice nod for I Can Only Imagine (Best Family Movie of 2018).

“We’re so excited to be nominated,” Jon Erwin told Christian Headlines. “We’re proud of the movie and proud of K.J. and his performance. It’s so great to see a faith film recognized in such a mainstream way.”

Camp, too, celebrated the…

‘Don’t Be Afraid of COVID’: President Donald Trump Released from the Hospital

‘Don’t Be Afraid of COVID’: President Donald Trump Released from the Hospital

Less than 30 days away from the election, President Donald Trump was released from Walter Reed Medical Center on Monday evening following a positive COVID-19 test on Thursday, according to Fox News.

The President stayed for three days at the military hospital. His doctors grew concerned over his health after he registered a fever and needed supplemental oxygen on Friday, as reported by CBN News.

But now, Walter Reed hospital staff believe Trump is fit enough to return to the White House where he will receive around the clock medical care. His doctor, Navy Cmdr. Sean Conley, however, told reporters on Monday that he remains contagious.

Trump announced his return on Twitter, praising the medical staff at “the great Walter Reed Medical Center.”

He left the hospital in high spirits, stating that he “felt better than [he] did 20 years ago!” He continued with the advice that Americans should “not be afraid of COVID. Don’t let it dominate your life.” He also commended his own administration for developing “some really great drugs & knowledge.”

Is America experiencing God’s judgment? How we can predict our national and personal future

Adobe Stock

President Trump was released from Walter Reed Medical Center yesterday evening. Global stocks rose earlier in the day on the announcement that he would be discharged to return to the White House.

First Lady Melania Trump has been isolated after testing positive for COVID-19 as well and tweeted, “I am feeling good & will continue to rest at home.” Earlier that day, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany revealed that she had contracted the illness and would work from quarantine. She joined three Republican senators who said they have the virus, along with several members of the president’s team.

A jetpack for paramedics

Abraham Joshua Heschel was right: no one can write their autobiography in advance.

A week ago, who predicted that the president would spend the weekend in a hospital? Four years ago, how many were predicting that Donald Trump would win the election? A year ago, how many were predicting the coronavirus pandemic? A month ago, how many were predicting the imminent death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett?

Paramedics in the UK are testing a jetpack that could enable them to fly up a mountain to provide first aid. Singapore Airlines will turn its grounded A380 double-decker aircraft into an exclusive restaurant.

And a team of scientists at Cornell University has developed a robot so small you could fit ten of them inside a single period. Researchers hope their invention will some day crawl around inside a human body to hunt for disease.

Which of these stories would you have predicted yesterday?

Two forms of biblical judgment

While the future is unknowable, there is a crucial way we can choose it today.

In light of the pandemic and other crises, I am often asked if our country is experiencing God’s judgment. I always respond by explaining that judgment in the Bible takes two forms: permissive and proactive.

If people…

9 Unique “Talking” Characteristics of the Two Leaders Who’ve Most Influenced Me

I’m thinking today of the two men who’ve most influenced my life as a minister—the best leaders I’ve known. Here’s what I remember about the way they talked:

  1. I never heard them speak poorly of others. They could have, as they knew a lot of people and saw the “underbellies” of churches and denominations – but they didn’t. They either built up others or said nothing.
  2. I never heard them say anything off-color or immoral. Ever. Not even close. Others around them may have moved in that direction, but I never heard them follow that route.
  3. They quite naturally told others about Jesus. Evangelism wasn’t a program for them; it was a lifestyle. They seldom missed an opportunity to talk about what Jesus meant to them.
  4. They readily said, “thank you.” No matter what position they held, they knew how much they needed the help and support of others. Saying “thank you” was quite natural to them—and genuine.
  5. They talked about how much they loved their family. I don’t ever recall being with these men without their speaking about their spouse and children. In fact, I seldom thought about them apart from their families.
  6. They loved preaching—and were good at it. Give them a Bible and a group to listen, and they were in their element. Because you knew they were genuinely men of God, you wanted to hear what they had to say.
  7. I never once questioned the veracity of their words. It never even crossed my mind they might be fudging facts or exaggerating stories. The…

Greg Laurie tests positive for COVID-19 after White House event

Evangelist Greg Laurie preaches at the 2018 Southern California Harvest Crusade in Anaheim, California. | Harvest

California megachurch pastor Greg Laurie, who attended the Sept. 26 White House nomination ceremony for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Other prominent evangelical pastors who attended the event in which several other attendees have since tested positive for coronavirus say they have tested negative.

Laurie, the 67-year-old author and senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, told the Christian Broadcasting Network Monday that he has the coronavirus. At first, he said, the symptoms started with fatigue, aches, pains and fever. He added that his sense of taste has been affected.

“Then I found out the news that I didn’t want to find out that I have the coronavirus,” Laurie explained.

He assured he is OK and now in quarantine.

“I just wish that at a time like this we could not politicize this and show compassion to people that are struggling with this. It’s real,” Laurie stressed as much has been made in the media about attendees of the White House event contracting the virus. “It really is a pandemic that’s swept our…

Trump DOJ Sides with D.C. Church in Suit: ‘There Is No Pandemic Exception to the Constitution’

Trump DOJ Sides with D.C. Church in Suit: ‘There Is No Pandemic Exception to the Constitution’

The Trump Department of Justice is siding in court with a Washington, D.C. church that sued the city over a restriction prohibiting it from meeting not only indoors but also outdoors.

Capitol Hill Baptist Church, which had around 1,000 attendees on a typical Sunday prior to the pandemic, is prohibited from gathering either indoors or outdoors under restrictions by Mayor Muriel Bowser that ban in-person church gatherings of more than 100 people.

The city has refused to grant the church a waiver, even though the congregation has committed to requiring masks and to enforce social distancing of six feet between families. The church filed suit against the city in September, alleging violations of its rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution’s First and Fifth Amendments, including its rights to assemble and worship without government interference. The church’s pastor, Mark Dever, is a well-known author and speaker.

“Although the precise legal tests may change based on the specific restriction at issue, the bottom line remains the same: there is no pandemic exception to the Constitution and our fundamental rights,” the DOJ brief, a Statement of Interest, says. It was filed Friday.

“Individual rights set forth in the Constitution are always operative and restrain government action,” the brief ads.

The restriction likely “targets religious believers”…

Amazon’s New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Series May Include ‘Game of Thrones’-Style Nudity, Report Says

Amazon’s New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Series May Include ‘Game of Thrones’-Style Nudity, Report Says

Amazon Prime’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series has been eagerly anticipated by fans, but a new report claiming that the show may include Game of Thrones-type nudity has some of those same fans promising not to watch.

Amazon agreed in 2018 to a $250 million rights deal for a five-year series based on the Lord of the Rings books, which were written by the late Catholic author J.R.R. Tolkien and include Christian themes.

Although the Peter Jackson-directed theatrical films from 2001 to 2003 contained no nudity or sexuality, such may not be the case for the Amazon series. The fansite TheOneRing.net reported it is “starting to see casting calls for actors ‘comfortable with nudity’” for the series. The entertainment news website Knight Edge Media linked to a casting call from BGT Actors Model & Talent it said was for the Amazon series.

The casting call sheet says the filmmakers in New Zealand “need Nude people based in Auckland — age 18 plus, all shapes and sizes.”

Knight Edge Media also reported it has “discovered that the series may indeed feature sexual scenes between characters.” That’s because Jennifer Ward-Lealand, an intimacy coordinator, apparently has been hired to work on the new Amazon series, Knight Edge Media reported. An intimacy coordinator ensures the safety and wellbeing of actors and actresses during sex scenes. Ward-Lealand…

Egypt Unveils Coffins Buried 2,500 Years Ago – Urban Christian News

Archaeologists in Egypt said Saturday they had found 59 well-preserved and sealed wooden coffins over recent weeks that were buried more than 2,500 years ago.

Opening one of the ornately decorated sarcophagi before assembled media, the team revealed mummified remains wrapped in burial cloth that bore hieroglyphic inscriptions in bright colours.

The dramatic find was unearthed south of Cairo in the sprawling burial ground of Saqqara, the necropolis of the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

“We are very happy about this discovery,” said Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Since the find of the first 13 coffins was announced almost three weeks ago, more have been discovered in shafts at depths of up to 12 metres (40 feet).

An unknown number of additional coffins may still lie buried there, the tourism and antiquities minister, Khaled al-Anani, said at the site, near the 4,700-year-old pyramid of Djoser.

“So today is not the end of the discovery, I consider it the beginning of the big discovery,” he said.

The coffins, sealed more than 2,500 years ago, date back to the Late Period of ancient Egypt, from about the sixth or seventh century BC, the minister added.

Excavations in Saqqara have in recent years unearthed troves of artefacts as well as mummified snakes, birds, scarab beetles and other animals.

‘Fearfully and Wonderfully Made’: Creation Museum Opens $1.2 Million Pro-Life Exhibit

‘Fearfully and Wonderfully Made’: Creation Museum Opens $1.2 Million Pro-Life Exhibit

A brand new exhibit, titled “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” was recently launched at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky that provides a biblical case for the sanctity of human life amid the current issue of abortion.

The meaning behind the name originates from Psalm 139:14 which reads, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

“As a ministry, we’re all about biblical authority and a Christian worldview,” Ken Ham the CEO of the Creation Museum explained to The Christian Post. “Abortion is one of the key social issues of today, and we knew it would be an even bigger political issue this year because of the election. We wanted to make something that was powerful and stunning and would help people be more informed about this issue.”

Ham, who also leads the apologetics ministry, Answers In Genesis, argued that the Bible makes  clear that all of humanity is made in the image of God “and have inerrant value and worth.”

“We go through the biblical relevance of all of that,” he added.

Dr. David Mention, an award-winning professor from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, oversaw the research taken in the creation of the “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” exhibit.

The exhibit features life-like models of babies throughout its 9-month development in the womb,…
