Faithlife, a church technology company based in Washington state, has acquired Wordsearch Bible Software, a digital library used widely by Christian pastors across the U.S., from LifeWay Christian Resources.

As a result of the acquisition, Wordsearch will become a part of Logos Bible Software, a digital Bible study platform operated by Faithlife. Seven Wordsearch employees will also be transferring to Faithlife.

Faithlife announced its acquisition of Wordsearch in a Sept. 21 press release that said in part: “Beginning immediately, Wordsearch customers will receive Logos-compatible editions of most of the titles they own in their Wordsearch library, as well as a comparable version of Logos, at no charge.”

In an interview with The Christian Post, Bill Craig, LifeWay’s senior vice president of publishing, explained the decision to sell Wordsearch to Faithlife.

“We recognized that while Wordsearch has been a tremendous tool for LifeWay and LifeWay customers, it takes a significant investment to continue to develop it as a technology tool,” he said. “During the COVID season, we’re making choices about where to make strategic investments. We believe…

Atheist Group Sues to Overturn Alabama’s ‘So Help Me God’ Voter Registration Oath

Atheist Group Sues to Overturn Alabama’s ‘So Help Me God’ Voter Registration Oath

An atheist advocacy organization filed suit Thursday on behalf of four Alabama citizens who say the state’s voter registration religious oath is unconstitutional.

Alabama is the only state that includes “so help me God” on its voter registration form. The phrase concludes a list of items that citizens must swear as accurate to them, such as “I am a U.S. citizen” and “I live in the State of Alabama.” The final words on the form are, “The information contained herein is true, so help me God.”

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a coalition of atheists, agnostics and skeptics, sued Alabama on behalf of four citizens who oppose the oath. All are self-described atheists.

“The Alabama Secretary of State excludes Alabama citizens from being able to vote if they are unable to swear a religious oath,” the suit says. “… This policy violates the rights of the Plaintiffs and others under the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.”

Quoting a 1961 U.S. Supreme Court opinion, the lawsuit says, “The United States Supreme Court has held as a settled First Amendment principle that neither a State nor the Federal Government can constitutionally force a person ‘to profess a belief or disbelief in any religion.’”

The suit asks the court to ensure the Alabama Secretary of State “provides forms that allow individuals who are…

61 Percent of Evangelicals Plan to Vote for Donald Trump, Survey Finds

61 Percent of Evangelicals Plan to Vote for Donald Trump, Survey Finds

According to a new online poll from LifeWay Research, just 2 in 10 evangelicals plan to vote for Senator Joe Biden in the Presidential Race.

According to The Christian Post, the reason is between party and racial disputes and not which candidate aligns more closely to Scripture. White Evangelicals tend to support President Trump in a landslide, with a 7 to 1 ratio out of every 10 voters. However, Black Evangelicals are overwhelmingly Biden supporters by about the same margin. But among other ethnicities, Trump has the support of roughly 2 out of every 3 voters. Overall the survey found that 61 percent of Evangelicals plan to vote for the President.

But between Christians who attend church at least monthly, the candidates are roughly split, with Trump receiving 46 percent of support whereas Biden is receiving 45 percent of support. Additionally, roughly 6 in 10 White regular churchgoers support President Trump, but Biden has support from 8 in 10 Black regular churchgoers and 6 in 10 Hispanic regular churchgoers. According to Scott McConnell, executive director of LifeWay Research, the poll shows that “Different ethnic groups are more attuned to specific failures of our country and of specific candidates. One’s ethnicity and political party are more powerful in predicting the vote of someone with evangelical beliefs than their shared religious convictions alone.”

This is one of the…

‘God Was Running after Me’: Charlotte Pence Shares Faith Journey in New Podcast

‘God Was Running after Me’: Charlotte Pence Shares Faith Journey in New Podcast

The second child and eldest daughter of Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence shared her personal faith journey in the first episode of her new podcast, Doubting It, which explores the issues of “faith, culture and doubt.”

Despite growing up in a religious household, Charlotte Pence Bond, 27, admitted that she went through a period of doubting her faith while she was studying abroad at Oxford University, according to Premier Christian News. At one point, she considered looking into atheism.

“I started reading atheists’ writings and literature. I was close with professors who were agnostic or atheist. I just started kind of trying it out,” Bond recalled. “I didn’t fully turn away from my faith but I wanted to see if I really needed it. Looking back on that year, I looked back over this journal I kept and I noticed in the journal all of the times that things of significance happened and I felt the need to write them down.”

Bond also acknowledged that she was living somewhat of a “double life” and that she was “doing things I shouldn’t have been doing.”

Nevertheless, she noted that God was not done with her and that He was not letting her go.

“A lot of times it had been when I would come across a Bible verse or something had happened that clearly involved God and clearly involved another encounter with religion in some way,” she said. “What I…

‘Pray for the President’: Trump and First Lady Test Positive for COVID-19

President Trump revealed Thursday night he and First Lady Melania Trump have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and said they are quarantining together in the White House.

The news that Trump and his wife tested positive for the virus came shortly after it was disclosed White House advisor Hope Hicks – who traveled with Trump to Tuesday’s debate in Ohio – also was positive.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” Trump tweeted around midnight in Washington, D.C. “We will get through this TOGETHER!”

Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence tested negative, the White House said Friday.

Sean Conley, the White House physician, released a statement saying Trump and the First Lady “are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”

‘Created in the Image of God’: Trump Recognizes Down Syndrome Awareness Month

‘Created in the Image of God’: Trump Recognizes Down Syndrome Awareness Month

President Trump issued a proclamation Thursday recognizing National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, urging the nation to protect and empower individuals with Down syndrome and oppose those who “discriminate, devalue, and demean the sanctity of their lives.”

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

“As our society progresses toward a more inclusive future, there are still those who pass judgment on which lives are worth living,” the proclamation says. “As President, I denounce radical proposals to terminate pregnancies of unborn children with Down syndrome.

“Our Nation will continue to emphatically affirm the self-evident ideal that all children – born and unborn – are created in the image of God, are worthy of life, and deserve to be loved.”

Individuals with Down syndrome “face unique challenges, reminding us every day that it is incumbent upon us as a Nation, to continue empowering them to reach their full potential,” the proclamation says. “Throughout this Down Syndrome Awareness Month, the First Lady and I celebrate these remarkable people, members of our families, communities, and Nation, and my Administration reasserts its commitment to standing against those who seek to discriminate, devalue, and demean the sanctity of their lives.”

During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Trump says in the proclamation, “we are reminded that we must never waver in…

President Trump announced early this morning that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19 and will quarantine at the White House.

The president tweeted: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” His wife tweeted: “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”

Vice President Mike Pence said on Twitter, “We join millions across America praying for their full and swift recovery.” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are among world leaders to offer their support overnight.

What happens now?

White House physician Sean P. Conley released a memorandum confirming the diagnosis. He stated, “The President and First Lady are both well at this time,” and added: “The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions. Communication Can Always Be Better

In May of 2017, I started my tenure as Executive Pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church. Less than 60 days later I found myself coordinating the church’s first adoption. Both the Immanuel staff and myself were in uncharted territory. A couple of our pastors had worked for a multi-site congregation, but none of us had adopted another congregation.

Fast forward to February of 2018. The Immanuel staff had done an incredible job of adopting the previous congregation and re-launching the site as Immanuel Baptist Church at Armstrong Mill. Yet, I could sense some tension building amongst the staff. Dan Russell, a seasoned minister of 40+ years, pulled me aside and said, “Communication can always be better.”

Most of my failures would have been mitigated if I had just communicated better. When you are not the primary leader the need to communicate becomes twice as important.

Two arenas in which I could have improved my communication are frequency and channel.

When you are communicating with others you have to discern the frequency needed for communication. There are three levels of frequency:

Often – I needed to communicate more often with my lead pastor and with my peers. I don’t want to be prescriptive, but if you only talk once a week, then you aren’t communicating enough. Sometimes a text is all you need, for others a 5 minute drive-by to their office will be extremely productive.

Regularly – A team needs regular communication. This may or may not be a group of peers and could be…

Nevada to Vote on Bill Removing Definition of Marriage as Being between One Man, One Woman from State Constitution

Nevada to Vote on Bill Removing Definition of Marriage as Being between One Man, One Woman from State Constitution

In November, Nevada will be voting on a bill to remove the definition of marriage as meaning between one man and one woman from the state constitution.

According to The Christian Post, Nevada was one of 30 states to ban same-sex marriage before the Obergefell vs. Hodges Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage. But now, if Joint Resolution 2 passes in November, their constitution will be rewritten to enforce the Supreme Court ruling.

According to the Legislative Counsel’s digest, “This resolution amends Section 21 of Article 1 of the Nevada Constitution to require the State of Nevada and its political subdivisions to recognize all marriages regardless of gender. In addition, this resolution establishes the rights of religious organizations and members of the clergy to refuse to perform marriages on the basis of gender or other factors, and specifically provides that a person does not have a right to make a claim against a religious organization or member of the clergy for refusing to perform a marriage.”

The Legislative Counsel’s digest continues, ‘This resolution further provides that all legally valid marriages must be treated equally under the law.”

However, that isn’t everything the bill will do. The text of the bill states it will “amend the Nevada Constitution to require the recognition of all marriages regardless of…

‘I Felt the Lord’s Calling,’ Kathie Lee Gifford Says of New Film, Then Came You

‘I Felt the Lord’s Calling,’ Kathie Lee Gifford Says of New Film, Then Came You

Kathie Lee Gifford’s latest movie has an inspiring message with a biblical foundation, even if it’s not a Christian film in the traditional sense. And even if – she says – it has PG-13 content.

Then Came You, which opens in theaters this week, tells the story of a widow who travels to Scotland to make new memories and put her husband’s death behind her. Once there, she meets a widower her age who is in a similar situation.

The romantic-comedy is the first film in a scheduled five-part series that includes a redemptive ending, Gifford says. She wrote it and stars in the lead role as Annabelle.

The message of Then Came You is simple, Gifford said: Life’s not over for those who have faced tragedy.

“It’s different than anything I’ve ever done before,” Gifford said. “But I felt the Lord’s calling on my life to write a movie for people who don’t know yet that God loves them.”

Gifford said she hopes Christians are not offended by the content. (It’s rated PG-13 for sexual material and some strong language, although it includes no nudity or bedroom scenes.)

“I wanted to be honest. I did not want to sugarcoat how people that do not have a personal faith would make certain decisions,” Gifford told Christian Headlines. “And I tried to be gracious about it, not have it in anybody’s face. But I tried to base the movie on real people who make real decisions. And…
