‘I’m a Christian First and Republican Next’: Vice President Pence Makes Campaign Stop in Atlanta

‘I’m a Christian First and Republican Next’: Vice President Pence Makes Campaign Stop in Atlanta

As Americans gear up to cast their vote in less than 34 days, one thing is sure, Vice President Pence isn’t taking anything for granted.

This week, Christian Headlines was given exclusive access to travel alongside Vice President Pence during his campaign stop in Atlanta on Wednesday.

As soon as his plane touches down at Dobbins Airforce base outside of Atlanta, Pence did a traditional meet-and-greet with statewide political officials, including Governor Kemp.

Without missing a beat, the caravan crisscrossed through Atlanta for the Vice President to attend a closed-door fundraiser lunch with the party’s faithful.

The participants donated to what is looking to be a record-setting campaign fundraising season.

Pence did not let the grass grow under his feet at Saint Regis. Before long, the caravan crisscrossed again back into Cobb County, a suburb of Atlanta, to attend the Faith and Freedom rally. The rally was hosted by Ralph Reed, who seemed enthusiastic to have the Vice President in attendance.

The crowd was rumbling with excitement to hear from the Vice President. Mixed in the crowd was the who’s who of the Evangelical Republican Movement, from Presidential Faith Advisor Paula White to the President’s legal counsel, Jay Sekelow, to Pastor Jentzen Franklin. The ensemble of evangelical heavyweights have all shown up to hear from the Vice President. As soon as…

2,000-Year-Old Jewish Ritual Bath Uncovered by Isreali Archaeologists in Galilee

2,000-Year-Old Jewish Ritual Bath Uncovered by Isreali Archaeologists in Galilee

Archaeologist from the Israel Antiquities Authority have recently uncovered an Jewish ritual bath that dates back to the Second Temple Period, according to CBN News.

The Jewish ritual bath, otherwise known as a mikveh in Hebrew, was found during an excavation that will be followed by the construction of a huge highway interchange at the Hamovil junction in Lower Galilee.

Remains of an ancient agricultural Jewish farmstead were also found in excavation, in which experts are given a deeper look to Jewish life from the Second Temple Period.

“The existence of a mikveh, a purification facility, unequivocally indicates that the residents of the ancient farm were Jewish, who led a religious and traditional way of life, and maintained purity as a Torah commandment. Ritual baths have been used in daily life by Jews since the Second Temple period and until today,” excavation directors Abd Elghani Ibrahim and Dr. Walid Atrash explained.

They added that this was the first time archeologists uncovered the ancient remains of Jewish farms that had once existed in Galilee.

“The discovery of the mikveh in the farmstead changes what we knew about the lifestyle of the Jews in the Second Temple period,” the excavation directors said. “Until now we hadn’t discovered Jewish farms in Galilee. It was considered that the Jews in the Roman period didn’t live in farms outside the villages or…

Filmmaker to Make New Cinematic Audio Bible Featuring Hundreds of Voice Actors

Filmmaker to Make New Cinematic Audio Bible Featuring Hundreds of Voice Actors

A 41-year-old Polish filmmaker, audio producer and director is working on a “super production” of an Audio Bible that is meant to provide listeners with an epic recording of the sacred scriptures.

“As a filmmaker, audio producer, and director, I want the Audio Bible to feel like a cinematic audio experience,” Krzysztof Czeczot told Aleteia. “When you close your eyes, you should be in the middle of the story, because the word has power, but also, the word has a space.”

The casting for the upcoming project will feature 100s of voice actors, ranging from A-list Hollywood actors to everyday people. Additionally, the technology that will be used in the production is through a binaural recording, an audio technique that is meant to provide a “3-D sound” to listeners, especially when using headphones.

Czeczot explained that he took a trip to Israel with his team to record “the sounds of the spirit of the place,” such as the crowds, people in the market, animals, and so forth.

“We were in Jerusalem, we were in the desert, we were on the Dead Sea, we were in Jericho,” he added.

Czeczot had previously put out a Polish edition of the Audio Bible which has sold roughly 145,000 copies. The Audio Bible project’s YouTube channel has over 5.4 million views.

A video on the making of the Polish Audio Bible notes that the project took approximately 3 years to complete,…

Pompeo, On Impromptu Visit to Rome, Warns Vatican on China Deal

Pompeo, On Impromptu Visit to Rome, Warns Vatican on China Deal

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — Responding to reports that the Vatican sent a delegation to Beijing to renew negotiations on the appointment of Catholic bishops, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a stern reminder during an impromptu visit here on Wednesday (Sept. 30) that faith leaders need to “exercise a moral witness against the persecution of believers.”

His comments, first published in an article and then repeated at the U.S. Embassy event, were met with pushback from church officials.

“Nowhere is religious freedom under assault as much as it is in China today,” Pompeo said at the symposium on “Advancing and Defending International Religious Freedom through Diplomacy,” organized by the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See in Rome.

“As with all communist regimes, the Chinese Communist Party deems itself the ultimate moral authority. The increasingly repressive CCP, frightened by its own lack of democratic legitimacy, works day and night to snuff out the lamp of freedom, especially religious freedom, on a horrifying scale,” he said.

Pompeo quoted the pontiff’s call, in his 2013 exhortation “Evangelii gaudium,” for the church to be “permanently in a state of mission.”

“To be a church ‘permanently in a state of mission’ has many meanings,” said the American secretary of state. “Surely one of them is to be a church permanently in defense of basic human rights. A…

Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s example of civility: Choosing today to invest in tomorrow

Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett smiles during a meeting with Sen. David Purdue, R-Ga., on Capitol Hill, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, in Washington. (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta, POOL)

The rancorous nature of Tuesday night’s presidential debate continues to be a reflection of our political climate.

As Judge Amy Coney Barrett began meeting with senators this week ahead of her confirmation hearings, multiple Democrats refused to see her. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer calls the process that led to her nomination “illegitimate.” Sen. Richard Blumenthal also condemned what he called an “illegitimate sham process.”

In the midst of such vitriol, Judge Barrett’s demeanor is an example for us all.

My wife’s blog yesterday commends Judge Barrett for her quiet confidence and strong faith in these rancorous days: “Surrounded by words of slander, she allows her life to be her defense. She doesn’t just believe her opinions, she lives them.”

Janet then asks the question: “Will we have earned the right to share our faith next year with the people we have shared our political opinions with this October?”

In light of my new book on civility, I have been discussing the divisiveness of our culture in numerous media interviews across recent weeks. Each time, I have asked the same question Janet raises, urging Christians to act during the election in ways that will strengthen our witness when the election is over.

Why is this so urgent? How can we do this today?

A battle George Washington lost

Partisan battles over the Supreme Court are as old as the United States. In 1795, President George Washington nominated South Carolina judge John Rutledge to be the chief justice. However, after he was nominated but before the Senate voted, Rutledge spoke out against a treaty with Great Britain that Washington supported and the Senate had just ratified.

In response, the Senate rejected the…

Reconsidering the Rice Krispies Treat

It’s not just for kids, doesn’t require an oven, and, for some, it’s even high art.

Four Ways to Encourage Families During This Season

If your church is like mine, our families are all over the map during this season. Some have fully returned to church and to all the programming we offer. Some are still watching online. Some are cautiously coming back. Some are out of the church habit altogether. We live in a very divided time in our country where strong feelings abound. How can we best support families in such a unique season?

  1. Be intentional about connecting. As I debriefed the quarantine season with several other ministry leaders, we all agreed that the period of “stay-at-home” reminded us how essential personal contact and one-on-one ministry truly is. As our normal church activities begin to resume, we must fight the busy to maintain that priority. Print a list of all of the families who attend your church. Go through it carefully, noting who you haven’t seen and who you haven’t had contact with recently. Make a plan with your ministry leaders to reach out. Do you have parents who are also teachers? Consider a special encouragement for them during this trying time for educators. Do you have families who have experienced illness or loss? How can you show Jesus’s love? Create a system so that your families are routinely contacted, whether they have returned to your church services or not. Keep a running list of prayer needs. Look for ministry needs and connect them with people that can help. You can only discover these needs by consistently connecting.
  2. Be gracious in understanding families’ positions.

Late Apologist Ravi Zacharias Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Late Apologist Ravi Zacharias Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Ravi Zacharias International Ministries has launched an investigation into recent claims that the late apologist Ravi Zacharias sexually harassed several women.

According to Christianity Today, Zacharias, who regularly received massage therapy to help manage pain caused by a 1985 spinal injury, was accused by three women who worked at a two-day spa he co-owned of inappropriately touching them, exposing himself to them, and masturbating in front of them during his treatment sessions between 2005-2010.

The women requested anonymity out of fear of retribution.

While it is unclear if Zacharias committed any of these acts, Zacharias’ former business partner reportedly issued an apology via text to one of the women.

According to Christianity Today, one woman claimed that Zacharias, insisting that he was burdened by his ministry, would regularly masturbate in front of her. She recalled him doing this at least 50 times.

Another woman claimed, “He would expose himself every time, and he would touch himself every time.”

She asserted that the private massage room “was where he went to get what he wanted sexually.”

One of the women also claimed that “He would touch my leg, which was kind of by his hand, but then he would run his hand up to the middle of my thighs and then to the private area.”

While another reportedly recalled him touching her lower back and sliding his hand down her pants or…

Poland’s President Walks in March for Life for First Time

Poland’s President Walks in March for Life for First Time

Recently reelected Polish President Andrzej Duda joined fellow pro-life supporters in the country’s 15th March for Life and Family, as reported by Faithwire. The 48-year-old president is a strong supporter of restricting abortion, stating that “the 21st century’s greatest battle will be for the family.”

Several other political leaders joined Duda, including the Superintendent of Schools for Poland’s Malopolska region Barbara Nowak and Krzystof Bosak of Duda’s competing Confereracja party.

Poland maintains strict abortion laws, only allowing it in cases of rape, incest, or when a mother’s life is in danger. The law also permits an abortion if a child is diagnosed with serious disabilities; yet, Polish citizens have lately taken the charge to fight this law, according to Live Action.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Polish lawmakers debated striking the permission in an effort to defend disabled children.

“From this place, together with you, I call on the judges of the Constitutional Tribunal to be able to stand up with great responsibility for the civilization of life and against the progressive civilization of death,” said Superintendent Nowak. “I appeal to the judges of the Constitutional Tribunal: Do not force us into the civilization of death. We stand for respected life, from the very beginning to the very end. We do not want to be like in the West, ‘modern and…

‘Elections Have Consequences,’ Trump Says during Debate of Barrett Nomination

‘Elections Have Consequences,’ Trump Says during Debate of Barrett Nomination

President Trump said Tuesday during the first presidential debate he has a constitutional right to nominate a new justice to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, while Democrat Joe Biden said the president’s nominee would endanger Obamacare and women’s rights.

“We won the election. Elections have consequences,” Trump said.

“We should wait and see what the outcome of this election is,” Biden responded.

The debate was filled with interruptions, crosstalk and name-calling, and led Lou Dobbs of Fox Business Network and George Stephanopoulos of ABC News each to call it the worst debate they had ever seen.

A CBS News/YouGov poll after the debate said only 17 percent of debate watchers said they were “informed” by the debate. About one-third (31 percent) said they were entertained. More than two-thirds (69 percent) said they were “annoyed.”

The opening topic focused on Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to fill the seat of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump emphasized he is elected for four years, not three, and constitutionally doesn’t have to wait for the election to conclude.

“We have the Senate, we have the White House, and we have a phenomenal nominee respected by all,” Trump said. “… In fact, some of her biggest endorsers are very liberal people from Notre Dame and other places. So I think she’s going to be…
