Value of Life Is Downgraded ‘When God Is Left Out of Government,’ Tony Evans Says

On Sunday, Pastor Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship continued his “Kingdom Voting” sermon series with a message entitled, God and Life.

Earlier this month, as Christian Headlines previously reported, Evans started the series to teach Christians to vote from a biblical worldview as November’s presidential election draws near.

According to The Christian Post, Evans’ latest sermon highlighted the importance of respecting the sanctity of life because humanity is made in the image of God.

“When you don’t start with the image of God, then you make life what you call it to be, not what God has created it and stamped it to be,” Pastor Evans said. “Till we see it through God’s eyes, then we will not start in the right place.”

Evans stressed that it is a “personal insult to God when life is not given the value He gives to it because what you said, is what God did is not worth protecting. So any discussion of life has to start there. Any discussion of life has to start with the divine mark.”

“And the job of government, the Bible says, is to protect that life,” he continued. “When God is left out of government, life and its value gets downgraded, reduced, dishonored and attacked. So when you think about Kingdom voting, you must think about the question of life.”

The 71-year-old pastor explained how the sanctity of human life includes “pre-born life and…

Trump Leads Biden 2-to-1 Among Evangelicals, But Ethnic Divides Remain, Poll Shows

Trump Leads Biden 2-to-1 Among Evangelicals, But Ethnic Divides Remain, Poll Shows

President Trump is running ahead of where he was four years ago among evangelical voters, although deep divides remain among ethnic groups, according to a new LifeWay Research survey.

The poll of 1,200 Americans conducted Sept. 9-23 found that Trump leads Democratic nominee Joe Biden among evangelical likely voters, 61-29 percent. Four years ago, Trump led Hillary Clinton among that group in an October 2016 poll, 45-31 percent. Eight percent of evangelical likely voters are undecided; four years ago, it was 15 percent.

Although Trump has made significant inroads among evangelical voters in four years, major divides remain among whites, African Americans and other ethnicities.

Trump leads Biden among white evangelicals, 73-18 percent, while Biden leads among Black evangelicals, 69-19 percent. Trump leads among evangelicals of “other ethnicities,” 58-32 percent.

Trump’s support among white evangelicals also has increased in four years, from 65 percent in 2016 to 73 percent today. Yet Biden also is receiving more support from white evangelicals than did 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton (18 percent for Biden to 10 percent for Clinton).

“Voting for or against an incumbent president is a more certain situation for voters,” said Scott McConnell, executive director of LifeWay Research. “Fewer Americans including those with evangelical beliefs are on the fence than at…

Senate Bill Will Defund Schools Allowing Biological Boys to Participate in Girls’ Sports

Senate Bill Will Defund Schools Allowing Biological Boys to Participate in Girls’ Sports

Senate Republicans have introduced a new bill that would defund any schools that allow biological males who identify as transgender females to compete in women’s sports.

Senators Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, Mike Lee of Utah, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, and Tom Cotton of Arkansas introduced the bill this week, titled the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2020.” It appears the purpose of the bill was to further solidify a stance from the Department of Justice on how transgender identification doesn’t constitute a civil right when it comes to banning genders from participating in other sports, The Christian Post reports.

Senator Loeffler said in a statement, “As someone who learned invaluable life lessons and built confidence playing sports throughout my life, I’m proud to lead this legislation to ensure girls of all ages can enjoy those same opportunities. This commonsense bill protects women and girls by safeguarding fairness and leveling the athletic field that Title IX guarantees.”

Likewise, Senator Lankford stated, “Permitting biological males to participate in women’s sports rejects the very spirit of Title IX, which was intended to create an equal playing field for women and girls.”

The bill is also reportedly based on science. The Christian Post cited Laura Ingraham who deconstructed why allowing men to play in…

Black Pastors Denounce Kamala Harris For Praising ‘Brilliance’ of Black Lives Matter Co-Founders

Black Pastors Denounce Kamala Harris For Praising ‘Brilliance’ of Black Lives Matter Co-Founders

On Friday, a coalition of African American pastors criticized Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris for celebrating the Black Lives Matter organization as “the most significant agent for change within the criminal justice system.”

According to The Christian Post, Harris made the remarks during an interview with CNN commentator Angela Rye during the NAACP’s National Convention last week.

Harris commended BLM’s three co-founders Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi for “their brilliance” in conceiving the movement.

“History is going to show it was an inflection point in the ongoing fight for justice and to reform the criminal justice system,” she said.

“I actually believe, as a former prosecutor, that Black Lives Matter has been the most significant agent for change within the criminal justice system because it has been a counterforce to the force within the system that is so grounded in status quo, in its own traditions, many of which have been harmful and have been discriminatory in the way that they have been enforced.”

The California Senator also defended the Black Lives Matter protests as “an essential component of evolution in our country.”

“Nothing that we have achieved that has been about progress, in particular around civil rights, has come without a fight, and so I always am going to interpret these protests…

Thousands in San Diego Come Together to Pray over the City

Thousands in San Diego Come Together to Pray over the City

In San Diego, California, over 3,200 people from 98 partnering churches came together to pray for the city’s schools, youth and teachers in San Diego.

The prayers were for protection from Coronavirus and the city’s racial tensions. The gathering is called “We Came To Pray,” and this was the second gathering so far. Almost 2,000 gathered in person while the remainder of the gathering came online. Many prayed for an hour while Pastor Miles McPherson of San Diego’s 19,000-member Rock Church prayed from a phone call. The others who joined online listened along and prayed from wherever they were at.

Daryl Nuss, the 71-year-old official from the National Network of Youth Ministries and one of the We Pray San Diego leaders, told The Christian Post, “Interestingly enough, we have not had any big civil unrest in our city. Is that a direct result? Maybe not, but I think some of it can be attributed to the fact that people of faith were praying and are praying.” California’s schools have remained closed since California Governor Gavin Newsom closed them down via emergency powers in the state’s constitution.

California, in general, has had some of the strictest coronavirus restrictions in the country, with the mayor of Los Angelesshutting off utilities to anyone who has a party during the virus. Further, earlier on in the pandemic, Dr. Robert Levin made headlines nationwide for stating the local Ventura…

Oregon firefighters get a new mascot thanks to a generous young boy: Even small acts can have large impacts

While the California wildfires have received more national attention, Oregon has been hit hard as well. So when Carver, a local five-year-old boy, learned of a donation drive to support the firefighters in his area, he wanted to help.

As CNN‘s Marika Gerken describes, while Carver and his grandmother were picking up groceries and other supplies, his “eyes fixed on something in the toy aisle—a Baby Yoda doll.”

Baby Yoda, or “The Child” as he’s officially known, is in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and quickly became one of the most likable and popular characters in the Star Wars Universe. Carver thought the firefighters could use him more than he could, so he sent the doll along with a note that read: “Thank you, firefighters. Here is a friend for you in case you get lonely. <3 Love Carver.”

As Gerken describes, “The firefighters now bring Baby Yoda with them everywhere and even document his travels in a Facebook group—with more than 20,000 followers—so that Carver and others can see how much Baby Yoda has helped them along the way.”

Don’t underestimate how God may use you

Carver’s gift reminds us never to underestimate the potential impact of our generosity.

When he and his grandmother bought Baby Yoda for the firefighters, neither had any way of knowing that their story would inspire not only their local heroes but people around the country as well.

And that wasn’t the point of their gift anyways. They simply wanted to do something kind to help those who were risking their lives to help others.

That kind of selfless giving is the hallmark of true generosity. And while we can never know for sure the degree to which that generosity will multiply beyond its intended purpose, we…

Palestinian Peace Activists Arrested, Charged for Participating in Video Call with Israelis

Palestinian Peace Activists Arrested, Charged for Participating in Video Call with Israelis

Military prosecutors in Gaza have charged three Palestinian peace activists with “weakening revolutionary spirit” after the activists took part in a video call with Israelis.

The activists are from the Gaza Youth Committee and had participated in a video call in April as a part of an event they called “Skype With Your Enemy.”

The group had hoped to encourage Israelis to become leaders who advocated for peace in their country.

Raji Sourani, the director of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights said the Palestinian activists could face prison time and hard labor.

According to the New York Times, the video call had more than 200 participants on Zoom. Participants included people from Europe, the United States, Palestine and Israel.

Hamas later arrested Rami Aman, the leader of the Gaza Youth Committee and others who took part in the call.

Gaza officials did not respond to requests for comment last week.

In April, however, the spokesman for the Hamas-run Interior Ministry said the activists had taken part in “normalization activity,” saying any communication with Israel was “a crime punishable by law and a betrayal of our people and its sacrifices.”

Hamas does allow communication with Palestinian merchants, the sick and Palestinian Authority officials, but officials condemn communication with Israelis on a sociopolitical level.

As of late September, two of…

Christian Boy in Uganda Feared Killed in Ritual Sacrifice

Christian Boy in Uganda Feared Killed in Ritual Sacrifice

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 29, 2020 (Morning Star News) – A Christian boy has been killed after a woman said to be a radical Muslim opposed to his father’s conversion from Islam sold him and his sister to a witchdoctor for ritual sacrifice, their father said.

Sulaiman Pulisi, a former imam (mosque leader) who became a Christian three years ago, said that in July 2018 his daughter, then 13, and his then-11-year-old son, Abdulmajidu, disappeared from their home in eastern Uganda’s Kachiribong village, Kasasira Town in Kibuku District. Police rescued his daughter on Sept. 16.

“We are mourning for our son who is alleged to have been sacrificed,” the crestfallen Pulisi told Morning Star News. “We are mourning with my daughter, who has been used as a sex object by the Muslim shaman.”

The identity of the suspected kidnappers remained unclear. Pulisi’s daughter, whose name is withheld for security reasons, was rescued from the witchdoctor’s home in a village in western Uganda after a Christian shopkeeper there asked her where she had come from.

“A radical Muslim woman called Sania Muhammad [of Kasasira, in eastern Uganda] who had connections with Muslim men used to look for children of converts from Islam and sell them to this particular Muslim witchdoctor,” the shopkeeper, Joseph Sodo, told Morning Star News based on what police have told him about their investigations.

After being…

Pastors James Roberson, Jon Tyson Share How God Has Helped Them Minister in NYC amid COVID-19

Pastors James Roberson, Jon Tyson Share How God Has Helped Them Minister in NYC amid COVID-19

It’s been said that some experiences you will never forget. James Roberson and Jon Tyson would agree with this sentiment after ministering in city of New York during this unique season.

“We are living in serious time,” Tyson, the pastor of Church of the City in New York and author of a Beautiful Resistance, said.

Tyson and Robertson, who pastors the Bridge Church, would both say that before COVID-19, ministering in New York city was already a unique and challenging endeavor.

According to Robertson, “Everything seemed to change at once. I can remember watching an NBA game and knowing that things were about to change.”

Tyson was struck with the realization that life was about to change when he was arriving back in New York from Hawaii.

Not soon after realizing the coronavirus’ impact, both men switched from pastoring churches that gathered together to pastoring churches meeting online.

Tyson and his family would soon have an even greater challenge to overcome, when they all contracted COVID-19.

“My entire family got COVID,” he shared. In his new book a, Beautiful Resistance, Tyson shares how God walked him through COVID. One thing, he shared, that really helped him stay strong as he battled the deadly disease was the love he received from his church and the love he has for his church.

One can tell in Tyson’s voice and through his book that he wants…
