Eric Painter of Texas: Youth Ministries and Spreading the Good Word

Eric Painter, Extending a Helping Hand to the Homeless

SUGAR LAND, TX, UNITED STATES – Thanks to people like Eric Painter, being homeless isn’t the same struggle it once was. For example, many people love Robin Williams but did not know that the man had many philanthropic endeavors. Williams was very candid about his sympathy for the homeless. In fact, he often used his films to give jobs to them. Many believe that the reason Robin Williams went the extra mile to help the homeless during his meteoric rise to fame is because he related to them. He understood their struggle with mental illness, something that would become much more apparent when Robin Williams tragically took his own life in the summer of 2014. Looking back, his tale, and that of Eric Painter’s is similar, one of perseverance through hardship.

Indomitable Spirit | Eric Painter

They say that the lord will never give you more than you can handle, but will also push you to your absolute limits and make you question whether or not that is actually true. People like Eric Painter of Texas are exemplary examples of God strengthening the spirit through strife. If you notice, the Bible is not full of happy stories where nothing ever goes wrong. Many ask, how could a benevolent God allow so many horrible things to happen? Well just as Noah was tested, so are we in our everyday lives. These tests of faith are no coincidence, and the more you experience life, the more you understand that God does truly works in mysterious ways. The truth is, we may not always be able to see the full picture in our limited perspective, which is why giving over faith and trust to Jesus helps guide us through the most uncertain times and the most powerful of storms.

Eric Painter wanted to share this message with the young and the downtrodden, those who are in the most dire need of the good word. The word of the Lord acts like the Rock of Gibraltar, an anchor when we immersed in uncertain seas. Many come across this powerful message when they are in the most need of it, and it makes them want to pay it forward by helping others with their own issues. Life is about perspective. Something that seems like a disaster one day, through the lens of wisdom, can be seen as a great blessing the next day.

The Purpose of Pain | Eric Painter

If you have ever picked through the aftermath of a storm, you know how all-encompassing the damage can be. Yet, storms exist because pockets of hot and cold air intersect, and this stagnant air must be redistributed. The same way the blood of the lamb fertilizes the soil, a storm helps redistribute energies, allowing for a more balanced ecosystem. Storms also teach us disaster preparedness, faith, and give us character. This soul cultivation is the very purpose of pain, and why we as the clay should not protest the hands of the potter our God.

Doctor Shares Personal Experiences with the ‘One Who is Life’

Is there another dimension of existence? Words for All website encourages visitors to open their minds to the possibility.

Being consciously connected with (eternal) Life itself, is being as prepared as we possibly can get here on earth.” — Dr. Pieter Noomen

During an evening walk, minister and licensed psychotherapist Dr. Pieter Noomen heard a clear voice reveal to him the 12 components of everything that exists: Oneness, Love, Life, Fire, Space, Connectedness, Progression, Effect, Freedom, Joy, Differentness and Harmony. He shares this and many other profound reflections and experiences on his website, www.wordsforall.org.

Over the course of many years, Dr. Noomen had transformative “visits” on the spiritual level, and on his website, he freely shares the universal and eternal facts of life that were communicated to him.

Visitors on www.wordsforall.org can explore Dr. Noomen’s remarkable collection of vivid experiences and wisdom drawn from the communications he shared with a spiritual presence. He grew to believe that, either directly or indirectly, all life stems from one common source, and when we can connect with that source, we reach the highest level of existence. And perhaps more importantly, he believed that being in direct contact with the ALL of existence is possible for every human being.

As Dr. Noomen himself explained, “I can only say that the information came from a presence on my innermost spiritual level I was in communication with for some time. The words seem the result of my spirit merging with the spirit of life It/Her/Himself.”

Dr. Noomen does not use the word God when writing about his experiences with the One-Who-Is-The-Totality-Of-All-Existence. Instead, he relays his extraordinary journeys on the spiritual plane with an openness that invites readers to uncover and explore their own accessibility to spirituality without labels or constructs. What others will experience, he explained, will be as unique and as personal as the individuals themselves.

A man of profound introspection and awareness, Dr. Noomen passed away in 2019, but his wealth of wisdom and insights freely shared on www.wordsforall.org will continue to inspire people throughout the world to broaden their spiritual paths.

An example from Dr. Noomen’s Wisdoms of the Week at www.wordsforall.org:

“Disasters happen. The media report them. Even if we’re not directly affected, the pain involved can shake us badly; at least for a while. It always reminds us of our own vulnerability. So next to sending out mental messages of compassion and love to the victims, we can check inside ourselves our own resources for dealing with bad situations. Being consciously connected with (eternal) Life itself, is being as prepared as we possibly can get here on earth.”

Faith and Flourishing: Strategies for Preventing and Healing Child Sexual Abuse

The Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science, in partnership with the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, will convene public health professionals, religious leaders, and abuse survivors from across the world for a free, public, interfaith symposium to improve the health and spiritual wellbeing of victims of childhood sexual abuse, trafficking, and exploitation.

“From a public health perspective, religious leaders are increasingly seen as a powerful force for shaping behaviors and perceptions,” said Jennifer Wortham, Research Associate at the Human Flourishing Program, and Executive Director of the Initiative on Health, Religion, and Spirituality, “but not all religious leaders are prepared to support the complex psychosocial needs of this vulnerable population. Without effective training, tools, and resources these efforts run the risk of doing more harm than good.”

Said Cardinal Seán O’Malley, President of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors: “Spiritual and physical healing go hand in hand. That is why all religious leaders, child welfare advocates and health professionals must not only seek the best training, but be accountable for building interdisciplinary bridges to address the global crisis of child sexual abuse together.”

Child sexual abuse is a serious public health problem with significant adverse impacts to the health and wellbeing of those who have been victimized. One in four girls and one in 13 boys experience sexual abuse as a child, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The symposium will take place April 8-10, 2021, during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The event, “Faith and Flourishing: Strategies for Preventing and Healing Child Sexual Abuse,” addresses:
the prevalence of child sexual abuse and its effect on the mind and body
its impact on one’s relationship with their faith and with others
effective strategies for prevention of sexual violence against children
how to care and advocate for survivors

The aim is to increase the capacity of policy makers, health care professionals, and religious and spiritual leaders to implement effective child sexual abuse prevention and healing programs in their communities. A list of speakers, partners, and more can be found on the symposium website.

Additionally, this event will promote the ongoing effort to establish April 8 as a World Day Preventing and Healing Child Sexual Abuse. We invite all members of the media, health care professionals, and religious leaders to recognize this day and register for this landmark conference.

The symposium is organized in partnership with the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science, the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, Harvard Divinity School, and the Catholic Project at the Catholic University of America.

Biblical vs. Eastern Meditation: Brain Expert Explains the Benefits and the Differences

TENNESSEE, UNITED STATES, March 11, 2021 – Meditation offers a drug-free way to lower your blood pressure and heart rate, and achieve better focus and concentration. But are all forms of meditation equally beneficial?

From psychiatrist and author of The God-Shaped Brain Timothy R. Jennings, M.D., comes a helpful guide that explains the differences between Eastern and biblical meditation—in both practice and outcome on brain and mind.

Meditation: Biblical Method Versus Eastern Method, A Guide to a Bible-based Experience with God documents the differences between biblical and Eastern meditation; describes divergent meditation methods and their impact on brain function and character outcomes; and demonstrates how readers can engage in healthy biblical meditation. Also included is a simple test to help readers determine which form of meditation they’re practicing.

Dr. Jennings describes Eastern meditation as a form of self-anesthesia that relieves transient emotional distress (like pain medication for an injury) without providing an actual cure for the problem.

Alternatively, biblical meditation is like surgery for the soul, he explains. It takes one through the valley of the shadow of death, removes the cause of the emotional distress and cures the problem, resulting in genuine peace for the soul.

The Bible tells us to meditate upon God’s word and God’s wonders in creation, and Meditation can help readers understand the practice of biblical meditation so they can heal their hearts and minds, and return to their oneness with God and with each other.

Author Timothy R. Jennings, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist, international speaker and founder of Come and Reason Ministries. He operates a private practice in Chattanooga and has successfully treated thousands of patients. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Life-Fellow of the Southern Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Jennings is also a prolific author whose books include The God-Shaped Brain: How Changing Your View of God Transforms Your Life; Could It Be This Simple? A Biblical Model for Healing the Mind; The Aging Brain: Proven Steps to Prevent Dementia and Sharpen Your Mind; and The God-Shaped Heart: How Correctly Understanding God’s Love Transforms Us.

78 Years Since Deportation of Macedonia’s Jewish Community by Bulgarian Nazi Army

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, March 11, 2021 – March 11th, 2021 marks 78 years since the deportation of 98% of Macedonia’s Jews to a Nazi extermination camp.

The Bulgarian pro-Nazi army forcibly evicted 7,144 Jews from their homes in Skopje, Bitola, and Shtip in 1943 and sent them to the Tobacco Factory transit camp in Skopje, from where they were dispatched to Treblinka. There were no survivors.

This is a harrowing part of Macedonian history that should never be forgotten.

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) calls on the current Bulgarian government to formally acknowledge the role that Bulgaria played during its Second World War occupation of Macedonia, and to provide its official apology both to the Jewish people and to Macedonia.

In an open letter to Bulgaria in December 2020, Macedonia’s Jewish community said:

“We publicly call on the Government (or the officially elected political authorities – Prime Minister, President, Speaker of Parliament) of the Republic of Bulgaria to face the truth about the Holocaust against the Jews in the occupied territories for which the pro-Nazi government in the Kingdom of Bulgaria at that time was directly responsible and to apologize and accept responsibility.

“The sooner the Democratic Republic of Bulgaria faces the painful and dark moments of its past, a reconciliation will be possible because the denial of crimes is the first step towards their repetition.”

The Macedonian government has made great strides in preserving the history of the Macedonian Jews by the opening of the Holocaust Memorial Center in March 2011, one of the largest Holocaust memorials and museums in the world.

UMD and The Holocaust Fund of Macedonia launched a strategic partnership and a joint Holocaust Memory Initiative in 2018, with the aim of protecting and promoting the traditions and cultures of the Macedonian Jewish community.

A significant step towards facing up to its pro-Nazi past is for Bulgaria’s current leaders to express their deep shame for the atrocities committed, and to recognize the lessons learned from them. A formal apology, after 78 years, is well due.

Stop Complicating Ministry: The Smaller The Church, The Simpler We Need To Keep It

So, you pastor a small, struggling church.

You’re trying to help it become less small and less struggling, but all the “can’t miss” answers from the latest church growth conferences never seem to work for you.

You don’t have a big worship team singing new songs, a dynamic small group ministry, a trendy youth group, maybe not even a building of your own to meet in.

That’s okay, you don’t need any of that to have a vibrant, healthy, effective church ministry.

We make church way more complicated than it needs to be. Some of that comes from (mis)reading and listening to pastors of big churches. We see them with professional-grade musicians, lighting, graphics and self-designed curriculum and we think we need to do that, too.

But we don’t.

Big churches didn’t become big by having cool new stuff, they added that stuff when it became the best way to manage the size of the crowd.

Parking attendants with matching shirts didn’t cause their growth, it was a byproduct of their growth.

The Simple Church Solution

Complicating things is never the answer.

Simplifying things almost always is, no matter what size church you serve, but especially if the church is small (whatever number you consider small to be).

Complicating things is never the answer. Simplifying things almost always is.

Small churches need to stop trying to emulate the processes used by big churches, and start asking “what’s the simplest way to do great ministry, strong worship, engaging fellowship, deep discipleship and effective outreach at the size we are right now?”

hen do that. Experiment with a few ideas if you need to, but keep them streamlined and simple.

Innovation doesn’t mean complication. The most innovative churches always get there by simplifying their systems, not complicating them.

Small, Simple Examples

For example, every church growth strategist tells us we need vibrant small groups. And they’re right. Healthy churches need a strong small group dynamic to strengthen essential aspects of the faith like fellowship and accountability.

But that doesn’t mean we need the latest small group curriculum or system. If you’re pastoring a church of under 50, you don’t need a small group program, you are a small group.

Don’t subdivide an already-small group of people. Get everyone together for fellowship, conversation, prayer and learning.

Want great kid’s ministry? Sitting on the grass, coloring on cardboard while someone who loves kids tells them about Jesus is life-transforming.

Youth? Listen to them, be an example to them, show up at their graduation, their games, their concerts. And be a soft place to land when they’re teased at school, they fail a class, or their parents get a divorce.

Families? Offer to watch their kids so mom and dad can have a much-needed night to themselves.

Seniors? Show them the respect they’ve earned, and take the time to learn what they can teach us.

On Sundays, we don’t need fog machines and lasers on stage – although if it works for you, go for it! Just teach the Bible using simple terms we can all understand.

Speak kindly and lovingly to hurting people.

Pray for those in need.

Encourage church members to invite friends.

Sing songs that work in your context.

In short, do the basics in a way that fits where God has put you.

Ministry will never be easy, but it doesn’t have to be as complicated as we make it.
