The Buffalo Bills have signed TE Charles Clay to an offer sheet

The Buffalo Bills have been very active this offseason. After their head coach, somewhat surprisingly, decided to step down the Bills went out and hired Rex Ryan. Ryan came into town and immediately started recruiting talent to place around young QB EJ Manuel. They traded fro RB LeSean McCoy to give their young QB a safety valve in the running game. They brought in Percy Harvin to give him a down the field target, and now they have extend a big time offer to TE Charles Clay.

Clay would be good fit for an offense that will likely rely on the running game and short to intermediate passes. Since being draft by Miami in the sixth round of the 201 draft Clay has caught 161 passes for over 1800 yards and 14 touch downs. He would be a perfect fit in Buffalo and give Manuel another pass catching option.

“It’s a five-year, $38 million contract with more than $20 million guaranteed,” Pro Football Talk reported.

Clay was given the transition tag by Miami and they now have five days to match the offer however given the fact that they already signed Jordan Cameron to a two year deal and will have to navigate a huge cap hit in the near future for Ndamukong Suh Miami is not expected to match the offer.

John Wawrow of Yahoo Sports reports that Buffalo made Clay one of their off season priorities, “The Bills made Clay one of their top free-agent targets this offseason. Clay traveled to Buffalo by private jet on March 10, the first day of the league’s signing period. He then spent several days in town to meet with team officials and tour the region.”

If the Bills do get Clay they would have had one of the best off seasons of all 32 NFL teams.
