Christian Post Report – The Dallas Cowboys have signed Greg Hardy despite his off the field issues, and the PR implications of such a move

However, it situation is so odd that they had to carefully word a contract to protect the team in the case that Hardy suffers a long suspensions under the NFL personal conduct policy. Hardy was found not guilty in a court of law for a domestic violence incident and the NFL is carefully reviewing his situation before acting. It seems highly likely that Hardy, even after being put on the Commissioners exempt list for most of 2014 will face some from of suspension by the league.

This is a one year deal, heavily laden with incentives that could be worth up to $13.1 million. In return for signing such a deal the Cowboys have agreed not to use the franchise or transition tag on Hardy in 2016 meaning he will hit the open market again next year. The deal is structured in such a way that nearly $11 million of its value are in workout bonuses and per game roster bonuses. That likely means the Cowboys will only owe hardy is base salary if he is suspended or if another incident lands back on the exempt list.

Given all the off the field problems, from a football stance this is a good move however the Cowboys are going to pay a high price for this signing in the public relations department. WFAA Broadcaster Dale Hansen has already taken the team to task for this move.

He started his verbal barrage with a simple question, “is there no crime you won’t accept?”

“Greg Hardy’s jersey is being sold at the Cowboys online pro shop now, You could get one for your sister or daughter and then explain to her that Hardy beats up women, but we’re cheering him now because he’s really good on game day, and game day is all that really matters to me. Your daughter will understand,” he continued.
