The No. 2 seeded Kansas finished the season on 27-8, and will be favorites to win through today against the No. 7 seeded Wichita State, who finished the season with a 29-4 record.

This will be the first time these two teams have met in 23 years, and the stakes couldn’t be higher, with both teams desperate to land themselves in the Sweet 16 next week with a win here today.

Kansas progressed through Round 2 with an easy win over New Mexico State earlier in the week. Wichita State had a more difficult time to get here and had to hold off a strong fight back from Indiana.

The Jayhawks will be hopeful that junior forward Perry Ellis can maintain his good form this season. He leads the Jayhawks with 13.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game on average through this season, although he could manage just 9 points and 2 rebounds on Friday, perhaps largely due to the fact that he is still coming back from a bad knee injury.

The Shockers meanwhile will be looking to junior guard Fred VanVleet to lead them to the win today. He was fantastic in the Second Round, scoring 27 points in Wichita State’s 81-76 win over Indiana on Friday.
