The Boston Red Sox will play the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday for the MLB 2015 season Opening Day. There will be a lot of hopes for both teams as this new season gets underway, however, only one franchise can get off to a winning start. Today’s game takes place from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a start time of 3.05 p.m. ET. The game can be watched on TV on the NESN network or online through free live stream (details below).
There is big history between these two rivals, and adding opening day tension to the mix should result in a clash that no fan wants to miss.
Both teams will be happy to start the new season with blank records, having had torrid 2014 seasons; both franchises suffered last place finishes last year, but both will have renewed hope and expectations as the new season gets started. However, a winning start could be important for the coming weeks, and building confidence early on can make or break a season.
The Red Sox have shaken things up a lot building up to this season opener. They have reinforced their offense; paying out $95 million to sign Pablo Sandoval, and splashing another $88 million for Hanley Ramirez.
Spending that amount of money will undoubtedly raise expectations and hopes, however, Red Sox fans will remember the $72.5 million spent last year on Rusney Castillo, and they will notice that he is starting this season in the Minors.
But make no mistake, this is a completely revamped Red Sox line up, and they have only one starter – Buchholz – from the 2014 season opening day.
John Farrell has said, “I think there’s a lot of excitement, and rightfully so, about the additions [general manager Ben Cherington] has made to our team. This is a talented group.”
