The Boston Bruins will try to extend their winning streak to six games as they face the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center. The game is Wednesday, April 8, 2015, and the puck drops at 8 p.m. ET.
The Capitals have already secured their place in the playoffs as they are second in the Metropolitan Division with 99 points.
Meanwhile, the Bruins currently hold the last playoff spot in the Atlantic but have to fend off the Detroit Red Wings, who are trying to take away their place.
The Red Wings and Bruins are tied on points but the advantage goes to Boston and with only three games left in the regular season, the Bruins should try and get as much points as they can.
Impressive performances in their last five games have seen Boston beat strong teams like the Red Wings and the New York Rangers. Their most recent win came off the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 2-1 shootout victory. Patrice Bergeron opened the scoring in the 21st minute of the game and also supplied the winning goal in the shootout to give Boston two points.
On the other hand, Washington have won four of their last five games. In that run they beat the Rangers, the Montreal Canadiens, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Red Wings.
Despite losing to the Ottawa Senators, the Capitals still managed to get a point with the match reaching overtime.
In the win over the Red Wings, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Mike Green scored to give Washington a 2-0 lead in the game and prevented any comeback from Detroit.
As for the pivotal match-up between Boston and Washington, a slight advantage is given to the Capitals as they have won their first two meetings of the season. In those two matches, Boston failed to score a single goal while the Capitals netted six total goals.
