The world is clueless about the sex of Duchess Kate Middleton’s baby. Regardless, many are speculating, and some have even created a list of names the royal couple may choose.
If the British bookies are right about their hunch that it’s a baby girl, the next royal family member might be called “Alice, Charlotte or Elizabeth,” according to one CBC report.
However, if Prince William’s next baby is a boy, the report said that he could be named “James or Arthur” – the middle names which he and his father Prince Charles have.
Toronto-based royal historian and blogger Carolyn Harris said it is highly probable that the family will choose a traditional name.
“With Prince George, it was clear that he would receive a name that had been the name of a previous monarch,” Harris told CBC. “For the second royal baby, we’ll probably still see a traditional name, but it may not necessarily be the name of a reigning monarch.”
But perhaps the most traditional name that the public has been betting heavily upon is Alice.
The name, which Queen Victoria allegedly considered “one of the most attractive girl’s names,” has appeared several times on the Royal Family tree.
For the choice of Charlotte, the blogger said that this would be a salute to the baby’s grandfather.
“Charlotte would be the feminine version of Charles so it would certainly honour Prince William’s father,” according to Harris. The name also symbolizes a “very sterling pedigree,” she added.
Elizabeth is of course, another name that people would gladly bet on. It’s an homage to the current Queen and the British monarchy’s longest-serving royal. It would be “honouring her decades of service and the pivotal roles she’s played in Prince William’s life,” Harris explained.
