Topic: Love Is Enough [Wednesday, 11th October, 2017]
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned. 1 Timothy 1:5
The concept of love is one that is very key, and greatly intertwined with the Christian walk. Over and again the issue of love keeps coming up, and truly we can do anything worthwhile without it, as Paul emphasized in 1 Corinthians 13:2-3 thus: “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
We need love for everything we have been commanded to do in our Christian walk. Here are a few instances:
– To evangelize and feed the flock. “He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep” (John 21:17). Peter was angry that Christ asked him one question three times. But Christ knew the importance of love, and that without love Peter would not last in feeding the sheep.
– We need love to have confidence in God. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5). Hope here is the Greek word “elpis” which means confidence. If we have no knowledge of the love of God, and this love is not in us, we would waver back and forth trying to put confidence in Him and His promises. When you love, you trust.
– Love is needed to hold on to sound doctrine. “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 1:13).
Without love God wouldn’t have given His son (John 3:16), and without love Christ wouldn’t have been able to sacrifice Himself. Embrace the love of God today, and see a change in your attitude towards the things of the kingdom.
Keep winning daily.
Prayer:
Dear Father, thank You for being love, and thank You for access to Your abundant love. Help me to exhibit Your love in my dealings, as I walk the path that You’ve called me to walk, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
