He received an email asking for a cake with an “upside down cross, under the head of Lucifer.” A separate request came over the phone to bake another cake, featuring Satan smoking cannabis.

In a landmark case, similar to a case with Asher’s Bakery in Northern Ireland, Charlie Craig and David Mullins will find out in a U. S. Supreme Court whether they have been discriminated against.

Jack Phillips is being represented by ADF International.

Legal counsel for ADF International, Laurence Wilkinson, told Premier during our News Hour that the recent requests were provocative.

He said: “Clearly this request is somewhat of a mockery and perhaps testing his view on what he will and will not create.”

“The argument that he has made, as an artist, is that there are certain projects that he should not be compelled to engage in.

“As a Christian, asking someone to create a cake that’s celebrating Satan is clearly not something that he will be participating in. “

However, with regards to the actual court case he told Premier: “I think it will be very closely watched by everyone in the United States.

“In terms of the freedom of expression, the artistic context, it will be very interesting to see how it pans out.”

The US case is due to be heard in December.
