Yousef Nadarkhani, Mohammadreza Omidi, Yasser Mossayebzadeh and Saheb Fadaie were all charged with propagating house churches and promoting “Zionist Christianity”.
Niko Cordman from Middle East Concern told Premier the law in the country that states an Iranian-born Muslim cannot convert, means they are being unfairly treated.
Speaking during Premier’s News Hour, Cordman said: “These men have not committed any crime, except basically living a Christian life and practicing the right to freedom of religion.
“That’s the only reason they’re being held accountable and taken to court.”
Mr Nadarkhani and Mr Omidi have also been sentenced to two years’ exile – Mr Nadarkhani in Nik Shahr and Mr Omidi in Borazjan – locations in the south of the country, which is far away from their families in Rasht.
As they were taking communion at the time of their arrest, on 13th May 2016, Mr Mossayebzadeh, Mr Fadaie and Mr Omidi faced separate charges of consumption of alcohol.
On 10th September 2016, they were sentenced to 80 lashes each.
Their appeal against this sentence remains outstanding.
