President Trump and his administration have been taking steps to show their support for Israel, but the European Union is not following suit.
As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, President Trump announced that the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and that the U.S. was working toward moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
EU leaders do not support Trump’s stance and action on Israel and rejected his announcement to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, according to The Times of Israel.
“EU leaders reiterate firm commitment to the two-state solution and, in this context, the EU position on Jerusalem remains unchanged,” EU President Donald Tusk tweeted after EU leaders from 28 countries discussed the matter at a summit in Brussels.
EU foreign policy leader Federica Mogherini has also warned that Trump’s decision could take Arab-Israeli tensions “backwards to even darker times.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem and move the U.S. Embassy. “I believe that all or most of the European countries will move their embassies to Jerusalem, recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and engage robustly with us for security, prosperity and peace,” he said.
But Mogherini said that Netanyahu should “keep his expectations for others.”
