Memorise: And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. – John 8:32
Read: John 8:32-44 (KJV)
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Bible In One Year: Exodus 29-30, Matthew 22:1-22
MESSAGE:
There are two sides to every coin, and in life, there are always two sides to everything. It is either you are greedy or generous; hardworking or lazy; truthful or a liar; a child of God or a child of the devil. There is no sitting on the fence. A lie can be defined as anything other than the truth. What is the truth? Several passages of the Bible use Jesus as a synonym for the truth. For example, John 8:32 says:
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Jesus (The Truth) sets free, but the devil (father of all liars according to John 8:44) puts in bondage. Every time you speak the truth, it is proof that Jesus lives in you, and He will make you free. Whereas whenever you lie, you are giving the devil an invitation to put you in bondage. Remember, in life there is no sitting on the fence, you are either for the truth (Jesus) or for the lie (Satan).
Key Point: Choose your side wisely.
Hymn 7:
1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!
4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
