Francis received the Celtic shirt, which was personalised with his name and the number eleven at the General Audience in Rome on Wednesday.
It came with a handwritten note from Kian McInally – a seven-year-old from Glasgow.

The Pope was smiling broadly as the shirt was handed over – he’s known as a keen football fan but isn’t thought to be switching allegiance from his hometown club of San Lorenzo, or the Argentine national team.
