President Trump Pledges to Donate His 3rd Quarter Salary to Fight the Opioid Crisis



The White House has announced that President Trump will donate his third quarter salary to the fight against opioid addiction. The pay contribution, which totals some $100,000, will be paid to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health and has been allocated “to continue the ongoing fight against the opioid crisis,” according to a government official.


By law, Trump has to be paid while in office. However, acknowledging his vast personal wealth accumulated prior to entering the White House, he has pledged to give away his Presidential earnings to various government-mandated causes. According to the Associated Press, the President donated his second-quarter salary to the Surgeon General’s office.


The President and First Lady have taken an impassioned stance against opioid addiction, vowing to commit huge government resources to tackling the crisis, which claims tens of thousands of lives per year.


On Tuesday, Melania Trump delivered an address in partnership with The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and as part of the administration’s efforts to raise awareness of the drug crisis.
