Archbishop of Canterbury reveals royal wedding highlights

The Archbishop of Canterbury married Harry and Meghan at St George’s Chapel on Saturday.

A day later he told those gathered at a Thy Kingdom Come event in Westminster that witnessing the connection between Prince Harry and Meghan was striking.

 

“What caught my eye at the time, and was the thing that lasts, was the sheer intensity of the emotional commitment of the duke and duchess,” he said.

“It was summed up in that service… their commitment to each other, to support each other, to communicate and to love on another.”

The archbishop said his second highlight was the passionate sermon by US Bishop Michael Curry.

He added: “I saw a comment today that said that was the gospel light. It was not the gospel light, let me tell you. If that was the gospel light I’d hate to see the gospel heavy.

“It was extraordinary because there was the power and the passion but there was Jesus at the centre of it.”
