David and Shirley Donovan from Fenland will talk at St Wendreda’s Church in the nearby town of March on 13th October – exactly one year since they were captured in Nigeria.

A former GP, Mr Donovan told the Fenland Citizen newspaper: “We have a real sense of gratitude to all those people, who every evening gave up their time to pray for us.

“We really value the support of the people and we want to show our gratitude.

“The talk is a way of contextualising what happened to us, to explain what we were doing and why, what we have learned from the experience and to encourage Christians in the town in their faith.”

The couple were offering free medical services to rural communities in Niger Delta state when they – along with two colleagues – were captured on 13th October 2017.

One person, 57 year old Ian Squire (pictured above) from Shepperton in Surrey, was killed.

The Donovans and their colleague Alanna Carson were freed 22 days after they were captured, following negotiations undertaken by Nigerian authorities.

Members of the public are invited to attend the talk at St Wendreda’s Church in March. It starts at 7pm.
